Rumors and the names started flying shortly after Rafael Palmeiro tested positive for steroids last week. Who would be next? More to the point: What big name would be next?

Faced with a swell that was becoming a storm, Major League Baseball and the players' union took what they called an "unusual step" — the sides issued a joint statement Wednesday, with hopes it would quash the rampant speculation.

"Reports of large numbers of positive tests currently unreported are totally false. Reports of big-name players having the reporting of their test results delayed are totally false," it said.

Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, Gagne, Randy Johnson, none of these names would surprise me. Remember that steroids aren't always about bulk or getting bigger, but the ability to recover quickly.

Bonds is sure taking his time getting back to playing. Wonder why. This could make a good reality show. Let's see we could call it "Steroid Survivor".

I've had the same "wonder why" thoughts about Bonds. Maybe ol' Hank has nothing to worry about after all.

There's a rumor that 50+ players have tested positive and MLB is holding their names. It is also a rumor that there are big names (bigger than Palmeiro) in the list. This is according to ESPN radio. But again it is just a rumor... Will see...
