Why LOGO got put into the HD Platium package

I'm curious now that I have this channel if there is any actual HD content on it? It seems to be a totally SD channel disguised as an HD one.

Logo HD doesn't actually exist, however, it doesn't mean that Viacom isn't debuting the channel very soon... and if they did debut the channel, Dish Network already has an HD placeholder by upconverting SD to HD, therefore, it would be a seamless transition that no one would ever notice. Plus, with Logo showing content from 2004-2005 and before then, I doubt much of it was even filmed in HD.

If the channel doesn't exist in HD format, isn't this a bit misleading to market it in a Platinum HD package? Not to mention, the channel isn't available on my other basement DVR box that doesn't carry the HD channels.

DISH should state up front that Turbo HD is all HD, but not ALL of their HD. I found this out the hard way when I asked to be switched to their top of the line TurboHD package last week, only to discover I no longer had SPEED HD. I thought the move to drop all the SD crap I never watch was going to save me about $40-50 a month. When I called to inquire, they told me I'd have to move back to essentially same package I had before with all the SD crap to get SPEED. I reluctantly did it, but feel ripped off! I didn't subscribe to the Platinum HD package, because I have an interest in only a few of those channels. Dish has obviously figured out how to set their pricing scheme to keep sucking money out of people...and I doubt they will ever put SPEED in the Platinum group, but that is where it should be!

Until I see an industry affiliate site stating that LOGO HD is an actual channel that MTV Networks uplinks as part of their HD package, until then, I will believe it is a upconverted SD channel.

Think back when Directv added all those HD channels at once, everyone was complaining because Directv upconverted the SD version into an HD 16x9 version as a placeholder until the tv companies actually debuted an actual HD version of the channel. This is what Dish Network is doing to LOGO.

Dish Network receives the SD 4x3 version, uses their equipment at the uplink facility to transmit this channel in a 16x9 sidebar format to their satellites in the sky, then it is sent back down to us as "what they call" an HD channel. Any channel out there can be done this way whether it has an actual HD version or not. Most local TV stations receive syndicated programming in SD 4x3 format but they have to recode the show into a 16x9 format with sidebars to send it out over the air to everyone who is already digital-ready. Its the same process with Dish Network, they code this to be in HD, whether it is or not, then it only shows up on receivers that are HD receivers. Its not that technical but I haven't seen any Viacom website that has anything about LOGO HD.

Dish probably put LOGO SD as an HD channel to promote the Platinum HD package & to cater to those who constantly gripe and complain at how they don't want to pay extra for a "gay" channel because they are straight. Dish killed 2 birds with 1 stone, not only do they make people who want LOGO happy, but they also use it as a tool to promote their Platinum HD package (which was lacking), and they also use it as a tool to get people to upgrade to HD if they want that channel.

Right now LOGO looks like 100% SD channel but it definitely isn't lacking in HD content available to them.

Queer as Folk as shown in HD on Showtime during its entire 5-year run and there have been a couple concerts this last weekend that were shown in HD on other channels before.

To catch LOGO concerts in HD, you must change the channel to Palladia

The documentary "Pet Shop Boys - A Life in Pop" was in HD on Palladia before.

Scissor Sisters: Live at the O2 Arena was also in HD on Palladia and it actually was labeled "A LOGO HD Presentation!"

The concert repeats at 2:00 AM on June 8th, 2009 on Palladia.

it should have been treated like babies first tv or something.... not trying to get controversial but the special interest channel such as this should have been treated like ala carte.. if you want it get it iif you dont you shouldnt need to get it just to get other things.... at least it was put into a package I wont subscribe too anytime soon. I would avoid the package though that is for sure

Every channel could be considered a special interest channel. If you don't want to watch that channel or any channel that's fine. Dish has ways to help you so you don't have to...

I block a lot of channels.

Mainly because there is nothing on them I want to watch and to conserve space on the guide.
I block all the silly shopping channels.
I block all the annoying religious channels.
I block all the porn channels.

I like LOGO because it shows movies(non gay) that you really can't see anywhere else. The thing I find really disturbing about it is all the censoring and bitblocking they do. that just seems weird. But my favorite show so far is rick and steve. It reminds me of southpark.

I like the wfn because I get to see my back yard a lot.

The fashion network? thats just a waste.

As long as I am being entertained, I am cool with the station.

It's an MTV channel, they do that to all their channels for some unexplained reason. Which brings up a point: since it doesn't exist in HD, it should've been in Classic Silver or Gold, whichever one it takes to get all the other MTV channels. That's where the world's largest cable operator, Comcast, puts it, even here in rural Pennsylvania where in the 1980s there was an outcry against MTV for being too racy!
