I have a Coolsat 4000 Pro. Will a Direct TV lnb (with circular polarization) work with it to obtain FTA from 119, etc. --e.g. NASA channel--or, do I need a Direct TV compatible receiver?
Thanks!:tux:

Yes it will work, make sure to set your LNBF Freq. (L.O.) to 11250

any single or dual DBS LNB will work for NASA, ANgel ONe, the audio channels and DIsh101 on 119 :)

Iceberg- you are the MAN! thanks--can you tell me WHY the FTA receiver will work with circular-polarized LNB? When I look at it's set up, it really wants the vertical and horizontal. I realize that "circular" is a misnomer--that it is actually vertical, then horizontal, then vertical, etc. (making squres and not circles), but the wave patterns would be alernating V H V H V H.... to the receiver. It would seem to me that the receiver would need to be quite sophsiticated to discern these alternating wave directions---am I misisng something? (I am new to this but am learning quickly). REGARDs to all!

no clue as to how it works...I just know it does :)

I always thought (perhaps mistakenly) that with a circular polarized LNB it was left and right as opposed to horizontal and vertical. There I was picturing a half circle on either side.

NO! Since its circular polarization the LNB can even be upside down :)

That’s the beauty of circular polarity. When I installed 110 & 119 on my T90 dish I turned them towards each other so the cables could be run neatly next to each other

The wave patterns aren't discerned by the receiver. That's the LNB's job, which is more an exercise in physical wave propagation than electronics. The receiver is fed the resulting QPSK modulated signal. Think about your RG6 cable - there is no way for RF energy to travel with anything approaching the coherence of the original signal.
