WTBS to be reflagged as Peachtree TV | ajc.com

So TBS is going to become a cable network in Atlanta, finally, like it is nationwide.

For those of us with Dish Network, then we should continue to find TBS on Channel 139. This is the national cable feed we have all had for about a decade now.

But with Atlanta's WTBS Channel 17 (a superstation) changing to become Peachtree TV (and carrying 45 Braves games), could we expect Dish Network to add the new WPCH-TV to the Superstations package?

That's interesting Atlanta use to have a beautiful music radio station called WPCH and also I didn't know they moved QVC.

WTBS is not classified as a Superstation in the US according to the FCC...these 5 are

KWGN
WWOR
WPIX
KTLA
WSBK

You can use "Superstation" in your name...hell Alaska ABC uses "Alaska's Superstation" as their motto.

WTBS/WPCH will only be available in Atlanta DMA on Dish...just as it is now

Converselly in Canada WGN (local Chicgao feed) & WTBS are classified as Superstations in Canada (along with the ones above)

They never had Superstation status with the FCC...WTBS might have at one point but WGN never did. The reason they had 2 feeds (same with WWOR at one time) was due to syndex rules. Syndicated shows would be bought up by local stations and they would get mad when people could watch it on WGN or WWOR. SO they made a separate feed for cable companies that got around it.

When I lived in Duluth, MN cable would pipe in KMSP from Minneapolis (this is when they were UPN). Well lots of syndicated shows (Springer, Maury, Judge shows, the repeats of newer series) would always get blacked out on KMSP because one of the local stations would buy the rights to it. There never was a separate feed...we just say the "this has been blacked out in your area" on the screen most of the day.

Some areas can't get the Supers due to that issue (Philly can't get originally WB Networks due to the local WB claiming syndex. So instead of blacking them out, they just wont sell the WB (at the time) stations there)

Actually WGN was one of the named superstations. It definitely did have official status as a superstation. they apparently lost the s tatus when they established different OTA and satellite feeds but it definitely has superstation status. in fact WGN was also named asa superstation in SHVERA.
