XM Satellite Radio responded to continuing attacks from the National Association of Broadcasters that suggest the company is concealing plans to deliver locally-differentiated programming.
"NAB should stop wasting its time, the commission's time, and XM Radio's time conjuring up theories that are without any merit," XM said in a letter sent to the Federal Communications Commission. "With respect to all of XM Radio's services, all content - whether audio or ancillary data services - is and will continue to be uplinked to XM Radio's two satellites and then retransmitted by both XM Radio satellites and all repeaters."
The company said it has no plans to use its terrestrial repeater network to divide signals into locally-differentiated services. XM said those repeaters will be used solely for overcoming signal blockage and multi-path interference.
"NAB may not want to believe it, but it's true," XM said.
NAB has been at the FCC, aggressively pushing the local/satellite radio issue, and has been specifically targeting XM in its efforts.
