Echostar (DISH Network) purchases VOOM HDTV from Cablevision
(PRLEAP.COM) NEW YORK-(www.NOSPAMPLEASE.COM) (March.5, 2005)- Cablevision Systems, Corp. has sold it’s satellite broadcasting business (VOOM) to Echostar Communications Corp. (DISH NETWORK) for 200 Million dollars.

Dish Network and Voom have been competitors in the past and now are going to be transitioned into one.
Voom offers a wide variety of HDTV programming. Echostar said it’s assessing how VOOM can be used to enhance the companies DISH Network’s existing service.

Cablevision began its venture with VOOM high definition satellite TV in the fall of 2003. Operations for cablevision’s VOOM have struggled to turn a profit and have put a strain on Cablevisions finances and share price. Ultimately the choice was made to sell.

Sounds like a very conflicting story. Published on 3/5/05 and cannot distinguished between the satellite and the HD service. (I am skeptical about the news).
 
"sold it’s satellite broadcasting business" One satellie and an uplink center not the entire buisness.
 
I believe this news release is erroneous and a piece of old news. The 200 million dollar purchase probably refers to the satellite purchase not the Voom programming.
 
This is obviously a retailer trying to get sales. They seem to not know the difference, (or care about the difference) of buying the hardware and the entire Voom enterprise. Is it possible they know something that NO-ONE else knows? Probably not.
 
the 200 million purchase was only for the hardware, not the programming or the customers, which is old news.
