um, lets see.....it doesnt have a rca output for AC-3 so whatever one the other is

but the box wil output AC-3 without an external box

Cool, thanks for all the latest info. Let us know if anything gets fixed with this release.

I noticed that the pansat HD specs didn't mention blind scan either. Wonder if that is too hard to do with these different tuners. Regardless, I'm going to be ordering the 8K tomorrow.

Apparently some people have an issue with me loading third party software into the box when I do not condone hacking/stealing here at Satelliteguys. I would like to address that since some people want to assume facts.

Definitely a case of people assuming.

This is along the same lines as what happened with the Coolsat 5K and the whole fiasco with the 1.00 versus 1.01 firmware that was never available for download.

yep. I have both 1.00 & 1.01 for the CS5000

But its moot now as the factory software is posted on Coolsat site and in post 1 after the pictures :)

Forgive me, but something like this could actually convience me to look into FTA, but is there really much free content in HD?

Could you give a bullet list of what kind of things one could expect or go after?

I would like to get the Pansat HD if they ever come out with one.....
But at $450 its not a bad price for a OTA and DVB receiver ONCE they have the new software installed in the receiver when I buy it.....
I will have to know the software is installed before I buy anything and don't want to start downloading anything because I might just screw it up.....
A very good question I know that there will be more HD on DVB in years to come,,,,,But how many stations have it now where you can pickup HD for free????JT

on KU Band (30" or larger dish) is mainly just PBS HD. Couple stations on C-Band (6 foot or larger dish)

There are a lot of sports feeds that are HD.

I assume the newest shipments have the correct software in it.

just answered above. Right now there isn't much 24/7 HD that is DVB.

I've found more HD feeds in the last 2 days than 24/7 channels HD

One thing that is good is when I scan the OTA channels, it makes them their normal channels. Problem was if I sorted by network (satellite) it renamed them 1,2,3 etc

This new one does not. It labels them as their normal channel (5,4,11,9,17,etc)

There are a couple "always on" such as PBS HD and The Outdoor Channel. I think what we're after the most with this box is the feeds of the sports variety...well, except for basketball. I can't stand all of those squeaky shoes all the time.

Anyway, back on topic with the review, I certainly appreciate Iceberg's lengthy and detailed review along with the pics. Just a suggestion, bro, you could have recorded the on screen menus and such onto a DVD with your Accurian and took screen captures from the DVD with your PC. They would have turned out crisper; however, I'm glad to see the pics to get an idea of the menu setup and OSD. Thanks again! Also, let us know about the new firmware mentioned above and what it fixes. C'mon blind scan, baby!

I enjoyed the hockey last week that was in HD:)

my crappy computer doesn't have a DVD player in it. CD only :(
(yes I need to upgrade)

Hey Iceberg
Since I ma useing a 10 foot dish C/KU band with my pansat 2500a.(will be replaced when I get 8000D}.....
I know I can get the PBS and the Outdoor Channel on C band on G10 in HD..
Where are the HD FEEDS for Sports?????? or other stations???
I am leaning towards the 8000D ONLY when they upgrade their software....Its nice to have a new toy....
before I buy anything there is a dealer about a hour away,I will want to see the unit and make sure it has the updated drivers installed.....I would hate to buy from someone I don't know on the net and get screwed.
I am glad you are giving the unit thumbs upppppp for now....JohnnyT

I'm really having fun with this. Even though I have just a SD TV, seeing programs that I normally couldn't is nice :)

Nice to see Coolsat satup to the plate and make a firmware that give full use of the box without having to resort to loading 3rd party firmware.
