Long RCA Composite Audio run from Receiver to Stereo

I want to run audio from Zone 2 out on my Yamaha home theater receiver to the Aux input of my garage stereo (which connects to my outdoor speakers). It will be approximately 40 ft of cable from the receiver to the stereo.

Am I correct in assuming the preferred method is to use RCA to F adapters on both ends and run 2 coax cables? If so, would RG-59 be ok for this application or do I need RG-6?

That's not very far, any cable would work.

I once use telephone wire to do this for video and audio. I just spliced the rca connectors into the telephone wire.

You can get a 50 foot RCA cable pretty cheap.

If not, you can use coax cable and either F to RCA adapters, or they do make RCA compression connectors.
