Technical questions for DISH

I am not sure if this is appropriate here, but I will let Scott decide. On the Game Finder Screen, once you find a game, you have the option to watch it if it is on now, or record it if it is coming on later. For upcoming games, can they add an "Auto-tune timer" to that? The way it works now, you find your game on the GF, then you have to leave that screen and go and manually search to set your autotune.

Not technical at all, but will the 4K Joey be priced as a premium, or just become the new standard Joey?

I don't think they would actually send a "signal" to the Joey. My guess is it is probably sending the encrypted MPEG4 data. MoCA is IP-based, so it is just packets. The Joey receives the data, decrypts it, and renders the video just like streaming from netflix or youtube.. It just happens locally within your home. In the case of 4K, it would be just higher bandwidth than 1080i or 720p. Of course I could be wrong.

If this is the process.........does that rule out the wireless joey?

The current wireless Joey is not 4K.

In theory, the 4K Joey could use the wireless USB adapter just as existing Joeys can, or a 4K Wireless could be developed.

A 4K datastream will probably be in the 12-16mbps range, very doable over wireless N or AC nets.

The 4K Joey is more than twice as fast as the HWS. Over a Moca 2 connection it should be faster than a "local" HWS in most every way.

Still want to see videos of the thing in action though.

A side by side with an HWS, both with the new UI would be great.

My ON TOPIC tech question: How many 4K Joeys per account? Any other count restrictions, such as there is with the Super Joey?
If Dish is providing OTA modules, why not allow the psip info to pass thru for the subchannel locals instead of the very informative Digital Service? :glasses and hopefully not the ridiculous answer of it is not good enough, because it would be a heck of a lot better than Digital Service. At least one would know whats actually on.

I agree, but there is a technical challenge doing that. Instead of scanning one transponder for all of the EEPG data e.g. once/day, the receiver would have to scan through all OTA channels sequentially and gather the PSIP data once/day, or however frequently the channels put out data. Do-able, but problematic.

Ok. I guess I just can't see how that really works, but if it is true 4k ,then I guess all is good.

Not at this time. If people want 4K add a 4K Joey. And ultimately the experience will be better then having a Hopper in that room.

So ... if I have a one TV home and that TV happens to be 4K ... I have to essentially pay for 2 TV outlets ... one for the HWS and then one for the 4KJ.

In a two TV home with a HWS and a Joey, and the 4KTV is where the HWS is ... you could swap the location of the HWS and Joey and then upgrade the Joey to a 4KJ.

Of course if your Joey is a Super Joey ... then you are back to paying extra for a 4KJ.

Dish seems to be close to this now... but how about one of those little "press select now" popups during show promos that automatically set the DVR to record whatever show.
I've always wanted a feature like that, especially ones announcing a show that's not coming up for weeks or longer that looks interesting. You have to resort to that "seek" timer....

I have a Directv HD set-top that I used to use for OTA service only. It appeared to only pull in guide data, at least beyond the current time or thereabouts, when you tuned to the channel. If you went channel by channel, it would populate the guide pretty well, but if you jumped from one channel to another one, you tended to have missing data.

This is exactly why Dish doesn't want to use PSIP data for their receivers, especially for DVRs. PSIP data is inconsistent and unreliable. Directv doesn't use it, nor does TiVo...

as said before, its better than nothing. at least one would know what the heck is on even if it just scanned the data when tuned. Just another reason Dish and paytv is becoming less valuable and desirable. If i have to go elsewhere to find the data, then I might as well go else to view it too.

how about ask them about attention 1317 when can we add manually indiviual ota stations for those folks who have a rotor or need to manually rotate their antenna this would be a great help for us folks.thanks

I had a wireless PS3 Joey and it got sluggish with latest firmware so I paid to have my hopper moved from basement to upstairs and Ethernet ran upstairs and I have one Ethernet cable I can use for the 4K Joey which is currently going to HWS.

Can they be connected via coax to share data? Is there a huge downside to connecting the Ethernet just to Joey 4K?

Can the Joey 4K play my movies stored on External HDD connected to my hopper? If not can I connect the external HDD to my Joey?

And any word on PS4 wireless Joey?

Thats a choice you will have to make. There will be no changes and is exactly the way other providers work as well.

Hmm Cox provides that data. Guess it's not all providers. I get it on all the local subchannels through Cox.
Yep that decision has been made, after 16 years was really looking for a reason not to make that decision, but the value is just no longer there for me on my personal account.

You got to do what you got to do. This was something I asked about yesterday and again no changes are going to be made.

OTA dongle plugs in front only?

Is there a PDF document sticky somewhere?
