Just read the advertisement for the DISH Wally and see under Coming Soon section the following:

*Video on Demand
*Watch 1 dvr recording and record up to 3 programs ( 2 sat & 1 ota ) * if you add an external hard drive and pay the one time $40.00 fee to DISH.
*Targeted advertising Via INVIDI.
*Event logos via internet without need for an EHD.

Being able to do 2 sat and 1 ota is a cool thing and with no monthly dvr fee at all -after the one time $40.00 fee, makes this a cool feature. Add another Wally for only $7.00 and you could record 4 sat and 2 ota at a time. IF this actually is brought to the market via software update , this will be an economical receiver for those who want to have the latest hopper like interface with menus logos etc without the $15.00 a month fee. Of course it is a feature that is coming soooon, so we have no idea if DISH will actually come through with it. After the sling catcher for the 922 fell through , I don't count my chickens till they hatch now,but if it does I can see my parents wanting to switch from the 722k to maybe two Wallys and then they could have two hd receivers in their house on both bedroom and living room tvs. Right now they use the 722k and a audio/video sender /receiver to watch in Sd on the bedroom tv. Their monthly fee would stay the same as now $7.00 and they would gain a second hd receiver and add two sat tuners to their mix.:bigok

I thought it only had the 1?
Well Mike's post would explain why Dish is so reluctant on letting a Wally on a HOPPER account.

I think I'm going to just Buy it and activate it.
Not like the CSR is going to know the difference.

Are we sure it isn't a different model Wally with different (same as VIP 612) $10 receiver fees?

Either way you would save the $7 DVR fee. Downside for many of us if we wanted the newer receiver is no compatibility with VIP EHD.

So the Wally has 2 Tuners for Sat??

Not yet. They say that it is coming soon! So who knows if they will actually implement it at all . But if they do it would make a nice little receiver once turned into a Dvr via software and you pay the one time fee to Dish.

I wonder if utilizing two tuners requires the Hybrid LNBf? It would make sense if it did.

It could involve using the same splitter that DISH uses on the 722k to split one sat into two or even the triplexor that does two sat and one ota. I don't see them allowing primetime anytime feature, since it would mean that they wouldn't be charging the monthly $15.00 fee like they do on the hopper. Imagine how many people would decide to go with the Wally if they could get the primetime anytime feature and escape the monthly fee. That would really cut their hopper numbers down .

Because it's a brand. Initially it was the XiP813, and the marketing team decided that a branded name would be better for business, so no more VIP or XiP titles. Technically, the Hopper is still an XiP813, and I believe the H3 has a ZiP name.

My sister used to use a ViP211k with external hard drive, but she got tired of only being able to record one thing at a time (she doesn't use OTA) so she switched to a ViP612. I am sure she would love to switch to a Wally if / when this feature becomes available. She doesn't use the external hard drive to archive anything from the ViP612, and she usually deletes her recordings as soon as she watches them, so hard drive compatibility would not be an issue for her. :)

So is this "Watch 1 dvr recording and record up to 3 programs ( 2 sat & 1 ota )" never going to happen for the Wally or is "soon" a year or more? Still waiting on OTA adapters to be available again for the VIP211Z or Hopper 3, especially now that OTA recording seems to be working for the H3.
