I would advise going trough the setup/activation again. You obviously are not set up correctly..

It's a 2 year old hopper with sling. Will try a reset.
Edit: Nope. Reset did nothing. Unplugged and reset Echo also. Alexa still says she can't communicate.

Wheb I push volume up or down on my Dish remote, it changes the volume of the aux equipment. Will Alexa control my Volume?

While I don't use the Echo to control my A/V equipment because of the many limitations and missing things, I did find while playing around with it that since I have a Harmony Elite remote, I can do much more by commanding it from the Echo.

I guess that when I say Alexa, skip forward, it skips 30 seconds and then I have to repeat the command 7 times to get a four minute skip. I just bought one, but it is not here yet. Alexa, sounds like an expensive worthless toy, glad I just paid $99, instead of $179. I notice Amazon says that they are out of Echo Alexas and do not know or even if they will get more in. Anyone heard what that story is about. One thing good about Amazon, I have 30 days to return it and they pay the postage with Prime, if I do not like it.

It isn't a worthless toy, but it is pretty much a toy! I love mine and use it for things that I think make sense. Most of the controlling type things are just not all that complete or reliable in my experience. So I have it play some music, check the weather and so forth.

No, you can actually say "Alexa, skip forward 4 minutes" (or whatever length) and it will do that for you. That's one of the cooler functions!

I love mine. Have a total of 5 now... 1 Original Alexa, 2 Echo Dots and 2 Echo Shows.

We use the "Drop in" feature all the time, it's become an intercom system in our house and away from the house.

I also drop in using the Show and am able to video chat with my wife and kids and also check in on and talk to the dogs. When my kids don't answer their phones I can just "Drop in" on them and start talking. :D

This morning they added Whole Home Audio so you can listen to your music around the house and it is all synced together.
Whole home audio on the Amazon Echo is finally here

I use it a lot when watching TV as its so easy to say Alexa tune to USA on DISH or Alexa Fast Forward 3 minutes.

I do wish it had "Alexa Turn the TV on" and "Alexa Turn the TV Volume up"

Every week it has new features added to it and keeps getting better all the time.

Just maintaining a shopping list is worth it to me.
