My biggest problem with the “next greatest thing in tv technology hdr” is that most people cannot even recognize hdr unless the tv tells that hdr is showing on the tv.
I’ve seen plenty of hdr and it has yet to excite me.
A cleaner 4K picture with a lot less compression is a lot more noticeable in my eyes.

Mine doesn’t say HDR in the guide like that even though when you test the c61k’s color settings it says its HDR capable. The TV doesn’t display the game in HDR even though the TV and AVR can display HDR and has no problems on 4k blurays.
It doesn’t matter who the provider is; a “ticket for engineering” is a big FU. They never actually do anything. It just a script response.
Fair enough. It isn't cheap for anyone, my apologies. I was simply referring to it relative to the other packages; xtra is in the middle of the price range.

Does your TV support HLG HDR? Seems that Directv has chosen HLG for their HDR and not HDR10 or Dolby Vision. HLG was specifically developed with broadcast TV in mind.

I would imagine so. If it didnt then the C61K would not say that my set is HDR capable. I see this being a problem for DirecTV as HDR 10 has been the accepted standard for blurays and everything else. Not many sets right now support HLG, and you have all of these sets that do support HDR 10. People buying them can see HDR content on bluray and would expect the same from DirecTV. Once they find out their sets dont work with DirecTV's HDR because the manufacturers haven't updated or the hardware is obsolete those customers are not going to be a happy camper having put down a good chunk of change a few years back. I'm trying to figure out if HDMI 2.0b is required for HLG or if it can be upgraded via software for those sets that are HDMI 2.0a. You shouldn't need to go out and buy a whole new set to get HLG.
From what i understand HLG was developed in mind for older sets to be compatible.. But the tv makers need to issue firmware updates to be able to decode but also it does seem 2.0b is needed
Well considering 2.0b is the newer standard in 2016-2017 sets, that would preclude older sets. Also, HDMI would not be required for RVU. I think it just needs to get pushed down in a firmware upgrade. I do have an email in with Yamaha on this and have tweeted samsung and am waiting to hear back a response.

I have a 2016 LG OLED. It apparently received a software update this summer to make it compatible with HLG.
