I am interested in upgrading a 722 and 622 to a Hopper 3 and Joey.

I had Comcast for 6 months and switched to DISH. The picture quality on Comcast in my neighborhood was terrible with frequent image pixelation on HD channels. Also Comcast HD DVR were pretty primitive compared to Dish. Dish PQ has been better than Comcast because it works almost all the time...

Got the 622 on Tuesday. Has a few more DVR features compared to the 942, but otherwise not much difference. And I get the MPEG4 channels on that TV now. I was mostly using it for local HD anyway with a silver sensor antenna, so the upgrade really doesn't make much difference to me.

I'm supposted to get a 622 to replace my 942 today. Not sure what I will do with the 942, which I own. In the past I have still been able to access the PVR on Dish receivers even after they are deactivated. Not sure why the 942 would be any different.

I did not see any difference in picture quality comparing HDMI and component. I am currently using component video with optical audio on my 722 and all is well.

I saw this also on my 942, but it was raining at the time. I guess it must have been a bad Dish feed if others also saw it.

I always thought it was illegal to demand "protection" money. Apparently E* has found a way around the blackmail laws.

The other bad part of the lease deal is that the leased unit comes with a one year warranty. You either have to pay the extra monthly service plan fee after that or pay for a new box if your leased unit breaks. You could be locked into an 18 month contract with an receiver which is unusable...
