    Dish Network Review

I had Comcast for 6 months and switched to DISH. The picture quality on Comcast in my neighborhood was terrible with frequent image pixelation on HD channels. Also Comcast HD DVR were pretty primitive compared to Dish. Dish PQ has been better than Comcast because it works almost all the time...

Dish to start upgrading HD customers to MPEG4

Got the 622 on Tuesday. Has a few more DVR features compared to the 942, but otherwise not much difference. And I get the MPEG4 channels on that TV now. I was mostly using it for local HD anyway with a silver sensor antenna, so the upgrade really doesn't make much difference to me.

Dish to start upgrading HD customers to MPEG4

I'm supposted to get a 622 to replace my 942 today. Not sure what I will do with the 942, which I own. In the past I have still been able to access the PVR on Dish receivers even after they are deactivated. Not sure why the 942 would be any different.

Why a $40 Fee to Enable External HD???

The same reason the bank charges ATM fees. Because they are the bank and you are not.

    ViP 722 Install Questions

I did not see any difference in picture quality comparing HDMI and component. I am currently using component video with optical audio on my 722 and all is well.

ViP 722 through 'Dish'n it up'

I just upgraded 508 to 722. I asked for $149 price but was told it was only for 622. I decided to pay the extra $50 for the 722. I guess I wasn't that upset since they were willing to give me a new HD-DVR (622) for the $149 price. It was my choice to ask for the newest model. I did get the...

    Charlie Chat Recap 9/10/7

I just upgraded a 508 to a 722 yesterday. Cost was $199 with $100 rebate for a net of $99. CSR told me that I could have had a 622 instead for $149 ($49 net) but I wanted the newer receiver with larger HDD. This cost included the leased 722 and replacing my dish 500 with a dish 1000. I...

Planet Earth On Discovery HD Theater 3/25/07

I saw this also on my 942, but it was raining at the time. I guess it must have been a bad Dish feed if others also saw it.

I always thought it was illegal to demand "protection" money. Apparently E* has found a way around the blackmail laws.

    Tech Forum Recap

The other bad part of the lease deal is that the leased unit comes with a one year warranty. You either have to pay the extra monthly service plan fee after that or pay for a new box if your leased unit breaks. You could be locked into an 18 month contract with an receiver which is unusable...

    Tech Forum Recap

I own a 942. I wouldn't mind leasing a 622, but I can't believe that they are treating 942 owners the same as those who leased a 942 when it comes to returning equipment. It doesn't seem right to send in my purchased 942 in exchange for a leased 622. Those who purchased a 942 are getting a...

    Comcast for Dish....

Thanks, I'm just a little touchy about Comcast because I had such a bad experience with them. I didn't mean to insult anyone. I agree with you that everyone keeps threatening to switch, and the grass always loooks greener with another provider. There are trade-offs with all of these HDTV...

    Comcast for Dish....

Actually, I knew that the 6412 is made by Motorola. Thanks for clearing that up for everyone else, though. I had two 6412 boxes in my home and they both had similar issues. The problem was with the signal coming into my home and was seen on both analog and digital channels. Once Comcast...

    Comcast for Dish....

I had the Comcast 6412 for about 10 months. I had nothing but problems with it. My experience was probably atypical, and most other people around here seem satisfied. I went back to E* and have been very happy with the 942. The main advantage to the 6412 is that there is no upfront cost...
