I have a new GEOSATPro HDVR3500. I started it up today, set up Wifi, and then loaded the latest firmware. Now after rebooting it shows the startup logo, then goes to a blank screen. The front of the box shows "0310". The remote control does not respond. The box does respond on telnet and on smb. So what gives? Any way to fix this? I have no USB devices plugged in, and the LNB cables are detached, so it's not that either. Any way to force a new firmware update over telnet?

Dear Brandon,
0310 is most likely time in a sleep mode. Just press the power button on the front to turn it on.

In case where your receiver for some reason was upgraded to Australian version, most likely the output on HDMI is set to 50Hz.

1. To reset, please open front panel, hold up arrow and Menu key at the same time and while holding these two buttons, turn on the power on the back.

When you see firmware loading, release the buttons. It will "reinstall" and will give you option to set it up.

2. In case the firmware was wrong (i would have to troubleshoot more, call us 888-483-4673) - please download latest firmware and save it to usb drive and repeat step 1.

The latest firmware is http://hdvrbox.com/up/gs/usb_update.bin

I downloaded the latest firmware from this URL. I transferred it onto the internal USB over SMB, since it would not load a firmware update from the front or back USB. After loading this update, I continue to get the same symptoms, with "0310" on the display (this can't be the time because it never changes). I've also tried hooking up the composite video to verify that it is not the 50Hz HDMI problem. I still get the same black screen over composite. (I know these are connected correctly because I get the GEOSATpro bootup logo before the screen goes black, just like over HDMI).

HDMI default is 1080i, do up/down buttons do anything ? Does power button put it to sleep?

Did you use the power supply that came with the receiver? What is the model number of your TV? What is the serial number of the receiver?

Thank you,

Video worked for a few hours, even after the firmware update. Then I turned the box off for a while and when I turned it back on this is when it started.

Once the logo disappears the screen goes black. The front panel goes from "boot", to "load" to "0310". None of the remote buttons work, including the power button on the remote. None of the buttons on the front panel of the receiver work, including power, up, down, menu, etc. once the logo disappears and the front panel shows "0310". The device will not go to sleep, even trying pressing the power button on the front panel. If it wasn't responsive on the network I'd think it was completely frozen.

I am using the power supply that came with the receiver. It is connected to a 50" Sceptre X505BV-FHD. The receiver Serial No is GE1601A64-00314.

Telnetting to the box and checking /proc/kmesg I see lots of errors repeated constantly:

I will send you replacement, this is hardware failure. Please give me your address in pm

Thank you for your detailed descriptions.

Replacement is on its way.

For the record, we test literally every receiver we ship. Most issues occur due to harsh shipping process, which I can not fix. Thank your detailed report!

OK, this is getting really frustrating. I received the replacement box today. Plugged it in and it worked for a while. Managed to blind scan a few satellites and got everything configured where I wanted. Rebooted the box. Oh, it had downloaded a software update over the network. Upgrading.... now the box will not boot. It gets stuck at a black screen with the channel number on the front panel. None of the remote control buttons work, and none of the front panel buttons work. Tried the Menu+OK firmware reload trick. Reloaded firmware and it still doesn't work. Tried downloading it again and putting it on a USB stick. Reloaded firmware again and it still doesn't work.

Turned the box off, unplugged the coax, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. No luck there either. If I could send this thing back for a refund I would.

Telnetted to the box and got similar errors to the last failed box.

Have you tried pressing green button and ok?

Are you using power supply that came with the receiver? Does it respond to any buttons? Can you send me a short video of how it boots up?
I would like you to disconnect everything except HDMI and go to menu and factory reset it. If HDMI doesn't show, use Composite (Yellow RCA)

Your box symptoms are reasonable for a failed box, but does a lightning strike twice?

Let's trouble shoot. If you can't send video just send me pictures.

I will email you shipping label

Thank you for your patience

Yes, I am using the power supply that came with the receiver. I tried the power supply from the failed box as well to rule that out. Once the box is booted up and displays the last channel number, it does not respond to any buttons on the front panel or the remote. I've tried restarting it several times, and sometimes now it shows the code "0903" and sticks on the logo screen. Is this one in your database?

I have tried using both Composite and HDMI and get the exact same result.

Everything was working great until I rebooted the first time and it did the automatic update from over the network. The box does respond over the network OK like last time, so if there is anything I can run over telnet for you, or even give you a remote session so you can check that out yourself, that would be fine too.

Here is what is plugged in during the video, just power and HDMI.
IMG_20160517_203904.jpg

Here is a YouTube video of the bootup process.

Could the configuration be corrupted, and it not getting overwritten with the firmware burn? Is there a file I can delete over telnet, and then redo the firmware burn to replace it with a default config?

Breakthrough: I got the box working again this morning! The issue we were seeing was the box would attempt to tune to a channel immediately upon bootup, and when that failed the dvb program became unresponsive. Thus the remote or front panel did not work, however the OS was still running. I managed to get back into the menus again by hitting the power button on the remote rapidly until the "LoAd" was finished and got the box to go to sleep just after bootup. When I then hit the power button again to wake the box, it sprung to life.

Checking the settings, I had put a channel in the "boot program" setting. Apparently if when the box starts up it tries to tune to this channel and if this requires a motor move, the box will not be able to tune into the channel and will just freeze up. I think this is an alternate manifestation of the bug here: http://www.satelliteguys.us/xen/posts/3893172/ Putting the box to sleep upon startup and then bringing it out of sleep gave it a chance to ignore the boot program channel and lock a transponder that the dish was aimed at.

I did a factory reset after getting back into the menus and all is fine now. This is a critical bug, because it causes boxes to be unusable if it happens... at least now there is a workaround.

SatelliteAV, just a reminder, I still need a shipping label to ship the first box back.

Thanks

Found another workaround.

If I want to force the box to forget what channel I was last tuned to...

I'm surprised it let you delete any files live on the box, something is changed in comparison to this firmware from the early ones, unless I'm remembering wrong. [distinctly possible]

After it reboots, did you look and see if play_history is just a empty file, or is there anything there, a default file loaded? It should be able to be made to either delete the file or load a default file when this error is encountered, as a quick and dirty band-aid fix, which would be better than being locked out of the receiver.

I suspect that this error has to do with the recent fixes for switch problems, but that's just my guess, nothing at all concrete .

Going to download this firmware right now, even though I can't do anything with it, at the moment.

Raine,

It doesn't seem tot mind if I delete files while it is running. I did try completely removing the data directory at first (after making a backup copy). It did simulate a factory reset, however I had to create a new data directory manually before it would save any settings. Also, not all files in the directory were recreated, that is why I just stuck with removing PLAY_HISTORY, which does get recreated with an empty file.

I expect it does have to do with those changes, but to be honest, I think there are still motor issues which was making this worse -- as I've been fighting with it moving the dish way past where it should be and not stopping. I'm sure it is not the motor because it works fine with my X2 M1HD and my TBS 5980.

Might be worth while to put a earlier firmware onto your box until the bugs on this one are ironed out a bit better, less headaches. ;)

The errors you posted up from telneting into the boxes look to be from the smart card interface, which may or may not be an issue. The box could be just checking the SCI on boot and then closing it, which the save/exit makes me think that, and the errors are just because there's no card loaded. But it could be a problem, I can't check it out because my 3500 and computer that I do that stuff on are both down right now.

Even though there's no actual physical smart card reader in the 3500 the SOC still has the capability and may check for it on boot, I remember CCam [or Oscam? One or the other] being active in my 3500 and I removed it. It should actually be disabled without the actual physical reader being present.

If it is the SCI0, it would load into this base address, I think, : 0x101F0000. DMA 7 for transmit, 6 for receive, interrupt 15.

Would love to do so, but can't find any previous firmwares to do so. Doing an online update says it is downloading v1314, however it fails to apply this one, and when it reboots it is still at 1344. I don't think these firmware updates were made to be rolled back. I've replaced the box with my $40 Amazon Chinese special the X2 M1HD, which is doing a fine job moving the dish and locking onto everything, between its overheating and rebooting. Even though the M1HD is flaky, at the moment it is more usable than the HDVR3500.

Hmmph, I see what you mean. I just tried downloading two previous firmware versions from links within the 3500 thread and I got a 404 file not found error. When I was messing around with my 3500, there was no problem rolling back, but I always did it from a USB drive. Hard to do that, if you can't download it in the first place!

Maybe Eugene is changing things again as to where the different firmware versions are being stored and they'll be available in the near future. Pretty sh@tty, if you can't roll back, IMO, especially when nasty bugs surface!

If I can find a previous firmware close to this latest one, I'll post it up for you.
