Personal Computer Game News

Well this is big news..

PlayStation Now is coming to PC, along with a new, enhanced USB dongle to allow for better PS4 connectivity.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016...pc-dualshock-4-usb-wireless-adaptor-unveiled/

I still have my problems with Playstation Now, mainly having to pay to rent games I already own digitally on PSN, but this is still cool to see. The wireless adapter will be nice for PC gamers who don't have Bluetooth built in to their PC too. I'm going to stick to my Xbox One controller because that's what I prefer but it's nice to have options.

FYI, these are all the games available on PS Now

That's a pretty impressive list. I can see how a subscription would be worth it to a gamer on a tight budget or someone just getting into games who doesn't care about playing the newest stuff. Hopefully they start adding PS4 games to the list soon. They are probably worried that would hurt their current sales though.

Edit: I might have to finally take them up on one of those free trial offers just to see how it works. I don't see myself paying for a monthly subscription with all the games I already have access too though.

That article also says that Ni No Kuni was added to PS Now. I have wanted to play this for a while but since I no longer have my PS3 hooked up I never got around to it. I'll probably give PS Now a shot so I can finally play this.

The other big news in that article is that they are now offering a year of service for $99.99. This is a pretty big savings when compared to their normal $19.99 per month. When I do try it out I will likely go for just a month or two of service to play a specific game. Even though there is a lot of content I don't see myself wanting to play PS3 games often enough to justify paying $100 for a year of service.

Cool. I'm going to be out of town this weekend so I'll be checking this out tonight. If you want to add me on yet another friends list so we can group up my Origin ID is king3pj.

Also, your link isn't working for me for some reason. I found a different page dedicated to the beta that has info for all platforms.

Might as well. Would help to have someone who actually KNOWS BF to play with. Feel free to play before I get on to learn some of the nuances. And luckily we now have VOICE CHAT according to Origin.

I'm no Battlefield expert but I did play quite a bit of BF 3 and 4 as well as Star Wars Battlefront. I know enough to know what both of the modes that are playable in this beta are. I never did grasp how to properly fly the jets and helicopters without killing myself and my teammates but as long as I stick to ground vehicles or stay out of vehicles entirely I do pretty well.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/3112...e-zen-chips-will-support-only-windows-10.html

If you want one of the upcoming AMD Zen or Intel Kaby Lake CPUs you will have to upgrade to Windows 10. Apparently Microsoft worked out some sort of deal with Intel and AMD to make their new processors incompatible with older versions of Windows.

I actually like Windows 10 so this doesn't effect me but there are plenty of holdouts who complain about every Windows 10 store game not working on Windows 7 or 8.1 so I'm sure plenty of people will be upset about this. Anyone looking to play DirectX 12 games was going to be forced to upgrade in order to play them anyways.

I just tried to get online to check out the beta but matchmaking keeps failing on both game modes. I went to Twitter to find out what was going on. Apparently the same a**holes who took down the Blizzard servers with a DDoS attack after their big wave of bans have now done the same to EA. It sounds like the beta is unplayable on all platforms right now. Hopefully EA is able to handle this as quickly as Blizzard did and we are able to play tonight.

I haven't read anything about it being a DDoS. It could just be that their servers weren't ready for the overwhelming demand of all the players on the beta. In any case the fact that we can't play yet stinks.

Well there is a group taking credit for this on Twitter. If you look at their Twitter account they claim credit for this attack as well as taking down Blizzard and PSN several times too. If what I'm reading on the Internet is true they also took Pornhub offline and kept them offline until they were given free premium accounts. It sounds like this is a group made up of former lizard squad people mixed with another hacker group.

I tried out the BF1 beta last night. As far as I know the quickmatch feature hadn't been fixed yet by the time I went to bed. After a couple failed connections when trying to go into matchmaking this way I decided to take a look at the game's server browser. When I manually joined a server me and my cousin where able to get in and play even during the middle of this DDoS attack.

This probably would have been a lot more helpful to people trying to play last night but it looks like the attack only took down the matchmaking server and the actual game servers were still active. We ended up playing for a couple hours with no noticeable lag or other problems.

It seems like there weren't many people who knew that the manual server browser was an option even though it is on the main multiplayer screen though. When I looked both game modes only had 3 of 4 servers with people actually playing. You would definitely expect a lot more than that on the first day of an open beta if it weren't for this attack.

I think the bigger issue was that people couldn't even get that far. Last night I went to see if the beta was down and I was able to log in. I tried matchmaking and it didn't work. Then I tried Server Browser and it would "connect" but then drop off. I just gave up and did something else. Then when I came back later on I couldn't even get that far. Wouldn't let me get past the title screen.

Wasn't all bad. Beat the first end boss in Odinsphere (honestly, that may be a GOTY nominee) and went to bed about an hour earlier than normal.

Hmm I guess they had already cleaned things up a bit by the time I got on. Normal matchmaking was still not working when I tried though. Just make sure you get the Nvidia game ready driver that came out yesterday. The game ran fine for me without it last night but I've read that it makes a big difference in performance, especially if you are playing in DirectX 12 mode.

The game itself looks amazing. I suppose that shouldn't be a surprise considering how great Star Wars Battlefront looks. The environmental destruction is on a completely different level from the last couple Battlefield games. If someone throws a grenade or drops a bomb from a plane it actually makes a crater in the sand.

If you are trying to take a point in a tank and you see someone shooting from a window in a nearby building you can level the whole building to take them out. From what I saw last night this is very different from BF4's "levolution" (ridiculous name) where there are a couple scripted destruction events that can be triggered by shooting at specific things. Instead of a few specific destruction events it looks like you can destroy any building you want if you have the right vehicle. It also looks like realistic destruction. If you shoot a specific part of a wall with a tank that is the part that will break. It's not a scripted event where the whole building falls in the exact same way every time.

Thanks for the driver note. I'll update, but I don't think I'll run in DX12 mode. I'm not really looking for superb performance in a beta, and given the "This will likely not work well" message the game brought up to me I think I'll pass unless I get really bad in DX 11.

Hopefully we'll be able to get on. A FYI that I'm going to a good working friend's going away party and it's been declared "Hot Bloody Mary Night," so don't expect a Chris Kyle level performance from me. ;-p

Ark: Survival Evolved, a game that is still in Early Access, is now trying to sell full priced DLC. Needless to say, the community didn't take this very well.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/346110/

In response to the fans criticism, the devs did what any smart company would do and decided to attack and bash those who dare to think that it's not right to sell DLC for an unfinished game.
