Are you having 771 message on the screen or any loss of signal messages coming up? If you aren't then you may be getting as high a signal strength that the dish and LNB are going to give you. Mid to low 80s on 99 and 103 aren't really that bad. Sometimes the LNB built in amps start losing a...
Thanks for the responses. I am an installer. Wife was asking about us upgrading our equipment? I told her about the HS17 and she seemed pretty interested. Then I started looking at reviews and changed my opinion on the upgrade. I basically wanted to have some experience as a retail...
As an installer I do a look at the lighting in the room I am installing in. IF there is no overhead light there is a really good chance that there is a plug being controlled by a light switch so I had better check that out before going much further in trusting if a plug will work or not after I...
As an installer I usually replace the LNB and the pigtail jumper off it and then tell the customer to call if the problem persists. Most often they don't call back.
As an installer I find the HR34 reliability is not as good as the HR44. The HR54 is pretty new and I hope it is better than the HR34. It seems there comes a model once in awhile that just doesn't cut it when compared to other models. I am still using a HR20 in my personal system. It had it's...
I have wondered if we might have some discs in our collection that already has DTS:X soundtracks just waiting for us to have the right equipment to listen to the DTS soundtracks. I for one hope such is the case.
I am going up to install Directv at 3 cabins today. They have hired me to get the service while they spend the weekend at the cabin. I have done these jobs over the years. As you say, Directv won't do the install but you can hire a tech to come up and do it for you. They purchase all the...
I am a installer. I worked for a contractor shop that did the Directv installs. Whatever was in inventory that day got sent out. Often it was not the latest model. Fast forward five years. I now work for a retail installer. I ALWAYS go out with the latest model to an install. We never...
I am an installer for Dish and Directv. BOTH can use a single line to the media panel or where the bundle of cables are that distribute to rooms throughout the house. Now having said that, IN SOME RARE cases it is nice to have two for Dish installs. That is in case the customer wants two...
As to a direct answer to your question I will go for it. I install both. In the end it is just choice. Choose price, package and technology and sign up. That being said (putting flame suit on) in my OWN PERSONAL OPINION I think you should go with Dish'sHopper with sling or DTV"s Genie if you...
Iam an installer. The HOA has NO power to stop the install. You can and should get the dish installed on the roof in the back of the house. I would NOT install on the vinyl if I was the one doing the install. I DO NOT like installing on a chimney if I have to leave my ladder and crawl onto...
You don"t need the swm 8 unless you have legacy receivers. It looks like you have newer equiptment so only the two way, power inserter, will be needed to get everything working for you. The installer will know just what to do.
When I started installing Cband decades ago the story was that RG6 could never carry the signals we demand it does now. RG6 was said to be limited to under 1000 mhz. Well things sure have changed. You should have seen the cable and connectors that we had to use from an old LNB to the...
People are fooled into thinking just because it is a HD broadcast you have to have a new HD antenna. NOPE. Any antenna will work. The antenna does not care how a signal is modulated. It picks up the signal and passes it to a demodulator that does the processing. That demodulator today is...
My antenna is under asphalt roofing and works just fine. Been there 13 years. Looks brand new. I get great signals on all channels. No amp needed. Transmitter is about 15 miles away. I have an antenna for high gain on VHF hi and UHF at around 50-70 miles. So I figured the extra gain under...
That is the logic the programmers feed us. I am not sure it is completely true having had the experience of ala carte in the past. YES I did pay more per channel. YES I did pay less overall for my TV programming at the end of the year. I have been there and it worked out just fine.
Not sing? I think it does. I had Cband back in the day and paid only for the channels I wanted. I paid $75 a YEAR for the channels I wanted, and only the channels I wanted. Now we have channels that so few people, if any watch, and we all have to pay for them. Waste of money and bandwidth I...
I do pole installs but really, they are so ugly! The roof mounts are in the end more stable than pole mounts. The poles used in Directv installs has such a thin wall the dish can flop around quite a bit. If the pole is mounted int they yard it is forever in your way.
