Is the HD GUI update strictly cosmetic or something more?

Just wondering if the HD GUI update changes anything as far as streaming local media to the HR24/H24 receivers. With my DLNA setup, I'm able to stream all of my locally stored media to any of the 4 receivers/DVRs. Playback is pretty seamless but I am unable to FFW or Rew through any of the...

    DirecTV Gamefinder for College Football

This is my first season with D* and college football. I've had E* for the last 5. Dish's website had their College Football game finder that listed the games that would be aired each week and on what channels according to which package you subscribed to. It made it so much easier to manage...

    HR24/H24 Supported video files

Does anyone know which video codecs and containers are supported natively by the HR24/H24? I have been trying to stream some ripped DVDs to my PC and using Mezzmo to stream the media library, some .avi files and some .m2ts files work fine. Others lock up the receiver to the point that I have...

    D* and signal cutouts?????

Just switched over from E* to D* about exactly a month ago. I'm generally happy with the change and MRV is living up to my expectations. Streaming networked multimedia to my H24/HR24 boxes is a plus I didn't count on. Anyway, I am getting very brief pixellations and audio cutouts from time...

Just switched from Dish Network to DirecTV.... One man's feelings

Sorry this is so long and wordy, but this is the kind of info that I wish I would have found more easily when I was contemplating my switch over..... I had a five year love affair with Dish Network. I was a bachelor with an HDTV in the living room and an SDTV in the bedroom. One box, two...

For those thinking of switching from E* to D*, my recent switch

Sorry this is so long and wordy, but this is the kind of info that I wish I would have found more easily when I was contemplating my switch over..... I had a five year love affair with Dish Network. I was a bachelor with an HDTV in the living room and an SDTV in the bedroom. One box, two...

    Longest cable run

I'm getting D* with Whole Home DVR installed on Wednesday and I prefer to do most of the cabling myself, mostly for cosmetic reasons. A couple of the runs to the individual rooms are looking to be a bit over 100 feet from the central switch. I'm using a good RG6 Quad Shield and was wondering...

Is Dish even trying to retain its customers?

Sadly, I dumped Dish for DirecTV, today. After three or four chats with customer service, I finally got accelerated up the ladder tonight and got to speak with Nichole who's only offer was to transfer my contract to someone else (friend or family) so that I wouldn't have to pay the cancellation...

    AM21..... why?

Since it doesn't add an additional tuner, what advantage do I have in adding an AM21 to an HR24 when the locals come in through D*, anyway? I have an OTA antenna I'm using with my E* setup, but when I switch in the next week or so, I don't see any reason to leave it up.

How to wire the house for MRV on a new install

Dumping Dish and getting D*. I prefer to do my own cabling through the house, cuz I've never had an installer do it to my liking (cosmetically). Just wondering how to run the cables. I'm used to using an E* 722, so I have needed two coax lines to the main room, but the way I understand is...

ViP 722 will not record OTA channel 8

Asked this question over at AVSForum and best anyone could come up with was dying HDD. One of them sent me this way figuring if you guys didn't know, no one would. My equipment: ViP 722, Antennacraft HBU22 antenna, Winegard HDP269 pre-amp. Satellite and OTA signals are coming into the house...
