    Question about Vintage Receivers

vintage is probably not the right choice of words, outdated might be a better choice. I'm just looking for some advice as audio receivers aren't an area of strength for me.

    Question about Vintage Receivers

I recently moved into new house where I will be able to set up a home theater system. A combination of many things (including laziness) stopped me from doing so over the last 15 yrs or so. I pulled 4 receivers from storage that have either been used by me or family members in some capacity...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

sorry for the questions but I guess I don't understand the benefit of having the 2 tuners (other than being able to record 7 things at one time vs 5 with the genie/mini). I will try to hold on to them but my house wasn't previously wired for anything so there may be issues with wiring in 3...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

Peds48: Thanks for the msg. Can you tell me why that is? Also, I think that I have had the 2 older ones for quite a while so I may actually have bought those vs. leasing. Does anyone know how long the leasing program has been going on? I know that I used to just buy my boxes up until a...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

Turns out that I was out of contract so I had a bit of leverage. I think I did alright. I am sure I could have done better but I am fine not pushing my luck. Ultimately, I got the move package (free move/install, free upgrades of my two older boxes, and Sunday Ticket Max). As for getting my...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

Jcrandall - thanks for quick response and good info. Do you know if there is somewhere I can find out when my contract is up with out contacting them? Does it show anywhere on my profile on the DTV website? I couldn't locate it anywhere and looked for a while but I am sure I could have missed...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

I haven't called yet but I am planning on doing so this week. My intention is not to get ST or anything special/extra. I am looking to lower my bill. I have been a DTV subscriber for over 15 years and only once (just about 2 years ago) called and threatened to cancel. This time I am very...

    NFL Sunday Ticket 2013

I had ST for quite awhile but cancelled about 3 yrs ago. I got it again this yr along with the Max package bc my kids have swim meets throughout Oct-Jan. my thought was that I would be able to watch my Bears play during these swim meets but I think I'm going to have an issue. I live in the...

    HR44 availability

Excellent. Thanks for the info. I think I will stand pat with what I have. Here's hoping that we meet up in the Big 10 Championship but even I don't have that much Orange kool-aid to think that my ILLINI are going to be much better than last year....

    Genie and Mini installation

On the directv app there is a remote control device that you can use but I don't know that it is any different than the other remotes and/or if will only change the channel on one box or all of them. Not sure if that is what the OP was referring to but thought I would make mention.

    A Genie Question....

Still hoping for an answer here for my Genie question. I recently got a Genie 44 and a mini-Genie to go along with my HR-22 and HR-24. I put the Genie in the family room as the main box, the mini-Genie in the basement which will be for the kids and I moved the worst one (HR-22) to my office to...

    HR44 availability

JCrandall - thanks for the response. So, if I am reading you correctly, if my mini-genie (C41) is just going to sit in the basement there really isn't much of an advantage to getting the wireless, correct? As for the 22 and 24, soon after I posted it I was able to figure it out so both are now...

    Distant Networks and Grandfather Clause

Dumb question probably but what is DNS (or VIP Channels)? Is this referring to specific programming packages? I have Choice Xtra Classic (which as everyone knows is no longer offered as a package) and I have had for over 10 years and it has survived 2 moves using the "Movers Connection" and I...

    A Genie Question....

Not necessarily tied to the original post but I do have a Genie question and didn't want to start a new thread about it.  I recently got a Genie 44 and a mini-Genie to go along with my HR-22 and HR-24.  I put the Genie in the family room as the main box, the mini-Genie in the basement...

    HR44 availability

I wanted to bump this one to get the answers I was looking for. I was able to figure out how to do the Avatar but I have not been able to figure out my other questions. Any help would be appreciated.

    What package do you have?

    - Choice Xtra Classic (debating pros/cons of giving up this one and going either one up/one down). - NFL ST for 9 of last 10 years (didn't have it last year). This is my first year free AND first year with Max - Free HD Extra - Movie promo deal (HBO, SHO, Starz, etc) for free for 6 months...

    HR44 availability

I am in the suburbs of Chicago and just had a Genie 44 and a mini-Genie installed 2-3 weeks ago. I requested the 44 and the CSR said that was what was going to be there. I forgot to tell them not to come if they brought a 34 but it ended up not mattering. The installer showed up with a 44 and...

    Directv or dish?

you mean I'm not the only one? I loved that movie the first time I saw it and only liked it more with each viewing. I am not all that into artsy stuff but the camera work on that movie was fantastic. Also, I loved the soundtrack as well and once saw it on cd at a store and said I had to have...

15 Years with Directv and, for the first time, I am thinking of switching to Dish. Pros/cons?

Harshness - thanks for the feedback. Sorry for not being specific on some of the things you mentioned. I assumed people would see my location (St Charles, IL) and realize it was Chicago...I suppose I should've just said so. I am in the Chicagoland area and my teams are local (Bears, Bulls...

15 Years with Directv and, for the first time, I am thinking of switching to Dish. Pros/cons?

This my first post on the Dish forum and leading up to it I have read many other posts while looking to make sure I am not reposting the same ol' same ol'. I couldn't find one that is looking for exactly what I am looking for but still apologize if this is a retread. Background: I have been...

    DirecTV Home Setup Question

Whitewolf - thanks for the welcome and I would agree that this is the best source for this information. It only strengthens my belief that I don't know anything about this stuff  but really want to learn. Chip/Hutch - Thanks for all of the information. Let me know if this sounds...

    DirecTV Home Setup Question

Chip - Thanks for the welcome as well as for the information. Re: the HR 34, is the primary benefit of this box being that it would allow me to record 5 things at one time? Is there any other benefit to it? I watch a good amount of tv but I can't say it is ever enough that there are 3 things...

    DirecTV Home Setup Question

I didn't want to start a new thread about something that is very similiar to what Charles is asking but I also don't want to pirate his thread so I apologize in advance Charles if I am doing so. I just found this site and it appears that there are a lot of people on here who know a TON about...
