    The End of VOOM?

Just heard about this on the Nightly Business Report. This proves that rumors are useful.. :( Plea to Echostar: please be gentle..

Would you buy or lease the upcoming DVR?

The only HD channels from Comcast that I care about are local and PBS, which are only a handful. I don't subscribe to any of the premium channels through Comcast. (Va-Va) VOOM is still the king of HD in my house. However my OTA reception is next to nothing, so Comcast fills in the gaps.

Would you buy or lease the upcoming DVR?

I'm leasing a HD DVR from Comcast for $10 per month. Wouldn't consider paying more for a VOOM DVR.

VOOM CSR: Motorola HD DVR due in Q1, 2005

I haven't read through all of these posts, so forgive me for not being part of the "group thinking." I really want a DVR that records HD, but what are my options? A Direct TV DVR @1K? I've researched my HD options (in the Bay Area) and have concluded that VOOM is the best bang for the buck...

West coast voomers, do you have rain fade?

We've had several storms since my 24" upgrade and the signal has held up very well. @party

West coast voomers, do you have rain fade?

Finally got my 24" in dish installed. No rain today (or in the forecast), but we did have a very heavy fog this morning. I don't know if this would normally be a problem, but my signal strength was '99' when checked by the installer :clap . I'll report back next time we get a *real* storm in...

West coast voomers, do you have rain fade?

Well, "the Crave guy" was a no-show again today. Called Crave and their customer service rep rudely explained over and over again that the problem was that I hadn't made an appointment. She couldn't seem to be able to process that I had in fact made an appointment (through VOOM) and was...

West coast voomers, do you have rain fade?

:river Another storm, more rain fade (right in the middle of Steve Winwood, no less  ). At least it's not a complete blackout like last time; only pixelated hiccups. Got "the Crave guy" scheduled (again) to install a 24" dish on Friday. Assuming he shows up and shows up with the...

West coast voomers, do you have rain fade?

The "dish guy" from Crave Electronics came out and was clueless (as usual) that I explicitly requested that he be equipped with a 24' dish before coming out. Instead of upgrading my dish, he stomped around on my roof for 30 minutes. When I explained that I had requested that he NOT show up...

    Love Movies on VOOM

I agree. Many of the VOOM movies are of "the quality" that don't appeal to the mass market. Kudos to whomever is in charge of VOOM-specific programming.

    24 inch dish install

A bad strategy when you consider that the average VOOM customer probably has more technical savy than the average "professional" satellite installer. At least that's been my experience with installers so far and my perception of VOOM customers and their installers from reading this forum...

    24 inch dish install

I haven't read through all of the posts in this thread, so sorry if this question has already been asked... I've been experiencing some serious rain fade here in the SF Bay Area with the recent storms. Rather than begging and waiting for VOOM to upgrade my dish, I was thinking about...

West coast voomers, do you have rain fade?

Boy do I ever have rain fade... I live on the Bay Area Peninsula and have had VOOM for months now. Up until our first big rain on Sunday, I've been pretty happy with the satellite reception (not so happy with OTA, but that's more due to my location). I now realize that I can forget about...

Some installers taking DVI cable from Voom box and selling on EBAY

Yeah my installer tried to make off with my DVI cable. I have a brand new Samsung HLP with DVI and he connected the component cables. I noticed this as he was ready to leave and he had the DVI cable in his hand. Good thing I knew what type of connection I wanted.

    Bay Area VOOMers?

Regarding your question, I don't know, but highly doubt it. Best of luck with your installation.

    Bay Area VOOMers?

Have you checked the LOS to the VOOM satellite to the east? I've heard this is sometimes a problem in SF and may be a particular challenge at the far western edge of the city. I'm on the peninsula, high on a hill overlooking the bay with a clear view of Hayward and my dish points DOWN.

    Bay Area VOOMers?

Thought I'd provide an update on the status of a Bay Area Voomer. So far, my SAT signal hovers around 90, so I'm pretty happy about that. It being July in CA, I haven't had a chance to detect any changes when it rains. My OTA is another story, however. As I indicated earlier in this...

Mapping the "OK" button to a Pronto TSU3000

I just picked up a Pronto TSU3000 NG remote. For starters, I'm setting it up with the preset "Brand" controls and selected the 'Motorola' for the SAT device. Most of the buttons I've checked work fine except for the "OK" button (both hard button "OK" and screen "OK" buttons don't do...

    Voom Policy

Funny story, but I'd be pissed too. I had a similar experience, but I was given the correct number but incorrect area code. (I was given an "800" area code when it should have been "888".)

    VOOM Installations

How long is it reasonable to wait for someone from VOOM to schedule an appointment to check OTA problems? I called on Tuesday and was told that someone would call to schedule an appointment. It's now Thursday afternoon and still no call.

Funny thing Directv told me about Voom

I've noticed that a lot of people have this misconception. I guess it's understandable when you consider how fast VOOM has been adding channels. DirectTV and Dish are going to have to get much more agressive if they hope to survive in the upcoming HD era.
