When you select a show while right arrow browsing, there is no SD/HD option. The one channel shown is HD, and when a show is selected from there the record options don't include a choice either. Just wondering how I managed to get SD when it is impossible to select in that way.

The timer thing would be solved for me if they'd get the dish online web thing working. I prefer the web interface, but it is hugely flawed at the moment. 90% of the time I have to create a dummy timer just to get in, and then when I create a real timer the settings aren't what I've chosen...

This started working for me today on both Hoppers. Maybe it was a fluke...

This has been bothering me for years and I'm wondering why I haven't seen more people griping here. If I have an available tuner, why can't both programs be recorded when they overlap? Actually, it would just need to save that piece to 2 separate files and one tuner is all that's needed.

Dish Online now says the the 'recorder is offline' and there's a button to Reconnect. It doesn't, of course, but the new timer trick still works.

This didn't fix it for me. The only time I can see timers on either of my hoppers is when I have been actively using one and it hasn't timed out due to inactivity (not 100%) or if I set a timer online first (100% so far).

I use my TV as an alarm clock and have a manual timer to set the channel.

I have 2 Hoppers and 2 Joeys each individually hardwired to ethernet. No 'unlinking' or other side effects to my knowledge. The installer said it wasn't necessary but shouldn't be any better or worse. All 4 have dropouts when streaming local video, but I assume that is buggy DLNA code.

My installer had preloaded the Hoppers and they were up in minutes.

Already did that, thinking I would be the installer. Gonna have to yank my diplexer for the OTA antenna in the attic, but the rest is child's play. Made sure all the coax labeling was still readable and started working on my self restraint. Note to self: no caffeine tomorrow.

In my experience/location that is always the case. 95% of the time, it's this one outfit I mentioned above. A few times it was another bunch. I always try to specify, but the Dish reps insist they can't do that.

They are a retailer. If they get the nod, I'm going to ask them if I can do it myself when they call about the appointment. Don't want to even speak to them unless i have to. There's no love lost between us and they know my skills, so they might cave.

I'm sure that true in most cases, but this is an upgrade (no dish work needed) and I have 40 years of experience in electronics, networking, wiring, etc. If I couldn't manage to plug the new receivers in and get them working, I could make a call and Dish would be none the worse.
