    hdmi 1.3-advise please

Did you read my post? I said on the NEXT consumer format AFTER HD-DVD/BD. Meaning that HD-DVD/BD only support 8bit color.

    hdmi 1.3-advise please

There is no source available with 10bit color nor is there likely to be for many years. Because of bandwidth limitations is is highly unlikely that satellite would ever carry 10bit color even if it becomes available on the next consumer HD product after HD-DVD/BD. This would likely be 10 years...

    Super Bowl Audio Drop Outs

You got DD for the entire game and also do every time you watch any HDTV because it is the ONLY way audio can be transmitted in HDTV. DD can be from 1.0 to 5.1 in ATSC. As I said CBS's main programing is almost always in 5.1 and commercials are most often in 2.0. It is the switch between 5.1 to...

    Super Bowl Audio Drop Outs

CBS almost always switches to 2.0 for commercials. This is what you were probably hearing.

    Superbowl on NFLHD?

Ironically this is one of the rarest times when a network hopes (and knows) almost no one will be watching it.

SD Locals Pan and Scanned ??

In general the way it works is most shows shot on film are shown open matte for SD. 35mm film has an aspect ratio of 1.37 which is close to SD's 1.33. The view finder has marking lines (soft matte) on the top and bottom for the 1.78 frame so the director can see where the main action should be...

TNTHD showing Crimson Tide in stretch-o-vision right now

No he isn't because he sold his media holdings to Time Warner in circa 1994 (as in well over a decade ago) which was long before TNT-HD and/or stretch-vision was created. You need to do a little history research. Time Warner is 100% responsible and Ted Turner has nothing to do with operations in...

Ted Turner is not affiliated with TNT (or Jane Fonda for that matter).:D

    622 Local HD Guide Information

I understand that the programing is in SD but the signal is 1080i HD 100% of the time. So it is an HD OTA channel. Hopefully they will start to add some HD programing but it will probably be a mixed bag of SD, SD stretch-o-vision, HD cropped, with some HD OAR like TNT-HD.

    622 Local HD Guide Information

Yes, the TBS OTA is 1080i HD even though it carries only SD sources (up-converted pillarboxed) except for baseball.

    622 Local HD Guide Information

I know that it fills in TBS-HD for me but it could be some how be tied to the satellite feed. I will try one of the other channels tonight to see.

    HD observations so far...

You may be confusing the softer look of film telecine to HD with video HD. Film has more than enough resolution for HD (it is theorized that 35mm is equil to about 4000 lines vs. 1080 for HD video) but it still looks like film and doesn't have the pop or wow factor of HD video.

Now that you have HD, how much SD do you watch?

0%, I have never tuned to a SD station.

HD Picture not filling up the entire screen of my HDTV

I will still record it and you can see the exact percentage of overscan applied by the menu of my VP50 (top right in red). This way you can determine your sets approximate overscan.

HD Picture not filling up the entire screen of my HDTV

I have the next HDNet test pattern set to record (in a couple of days I think). I will post pictures of it with 0% and other rates anyone wants. This will make it easy to tell how much overscan your display has.

HD Picture not filling up the entire screen of my HDTV

I have 0% overscan and I can confirm his observations. Also on VOOM channels you will see a white and red vertical line in the lower right black area. It is not a problem and most HD broadcast have some "garbage" in the edges. VOOM may use this as a watermark method. For reference here is a...

Are we ever going to see External Storage for 622?

OTA HD is about 19mbps and the highest E* HD is much less. Lets say that each HD stream requires 25mbps throughput x 5 at once = 125mbps. USB2 is 480Mbps so it would barely tax the system. Bring it ON.:hungry:

    HD Picture Cropped?

I have a projector that has 0% overscan and E* doesn't add overscan to the picture. I used my iScan VP50 to add overscan to show exactly what you should be seeing to determine the amount of overscan in your set. here are some screen shots with deferent amounts of overscan (shown in the left top...
