I Got My Refund Today !!

Got my $438 refund today. Way to go Voom, Rainbow DBS, and Cablevision. I miss Voom and hope they end up on my cable system in the near future.

    Voom on Cable

Bandwidth issues depend on the particular cable company. With my cable system, for example, the top analog channel is 73, and they are an 870Mhz system, which leaves them 57 RF channels for all digital channels. Assuming 2 HD or 8 SD digital channels per RF channel, they could easily carry 50 HD...

    What about us Charter Members!

I found out I'm getting a $437 credit. Between that, the previous $300 rebate, five months free programming, and a monthly sub fee after that of $39.90 including HBO, I figure that Voom has cost me less than $15 a month for more than 18 months of HD.

Are You Vooming Again On Dish Yet?

I may end up with Dish eventually, but I intend to wait awhile and stay with cable for the time being. The PQ is good, and the HD DVR works well. Besides, I would miss Wealth TV that's on cable (insert sarcasm here). That channel might have a few programs worth watching, but most are SD upconverts.

    It's yours

Star Choice uses QPSK modulation, and Voom used 8PSK, so Voom STBs won't work with Star Choice without modification.

    offer from dish...this is better!!!!

I received the e-mail too, but have a few questions for the experts here: 1. Is this offer valid for all former Voom customers, or only those who never had Dish before? (I left 4-5 years ago when the receiver died, and they wanted too much to replace it.) 2. I already have the 18" legacy...

Voom to disable OTA tuner in STB?

I unplugged mine just in case.

    Whats the rush?

I agree and will adopt a wait-and-see attitude. I'll stick with cable for now in hopes they'll add at least some of the Voom channels. Getting the cable HD DVR with no up-front cost is the clincher. The Dish 942 seems like a nice product, but after getting burned by buying the Voom doorstop, I...

It's Official - VOOM ON DISH NETWORK!

I'd rather stick with cable (especially since I didn't have any up-front cost for the HD DVR) and have already fired off a letter to the GM of my local cable company requesting that they pick at least 10 of these channels immediately. If they don't, I guess I'll have to sign up with Dish or...

Voom Box is DEAD and no OTA

The box will not receive OTA if it is de-authorized.

    Voom should enable OTA permanently!

The normal cold or warm reboot is not the same as factory reset. The factory reset is in a hidden menu (I won't give the secret code here so people don't kill their boxes). It was useful on early firmware revisions for curing several ills including restoring the OTA map for some people.

    New channels coming soon?

I live 25 miles from most local stations and get them all at 99 with just a small conventional TV antenna in the attic. I'm using the UHF section of the Stealth antenna (took the VHF elements off completely) that Voom provided to get several UHF stations that are 40 miles away and 90 degrees off...

    New channels coming soon?

Putting up nationals on satellite - any satellite - is a complete waste of bandwidth. You can get these locally and have local content to boot. Worse yet is DirecTV's plan to have 1500 local HD channels, essentially 300 copies of the same set of channels.

NEWS FLASH: New Channels: LIFETIME Net, CMT, National Geographic,...

We all have our favorite channels, but enough is enough until more transponder space and/or MPEG-4 is available. Picture quality has taken a hit with implementation of the new encoders. Although the static image quality may have improved a little, the artifacts during scene changes and object...

Need the Following information From Voom Subs

STB is set to 1080i, HDTV native resolution is also 1080i, and using DVI. Biggest PQ degradation I see is macro blocking during scene transitions or some rapid movement, something I seldom saw with old encoders. Artifacts look a lot like those on my local NBC and PBS stations, which both insist...

Breaking News: Flash From Voom Website: VOOM ceasing Operation by end of March

I agree. The cable company that services my area has more HD channels than Dish or DirecTV plus all local HD channels and an HD DVR for $6 a month. Obviously, it pales in comparison to Voom, but I'll stick with cable until something better comes along. I'm skeptical, but I'll see what DirecTV...

    voom has a new promotion

A D-VHS recorder is not a solution for recording HD from VOOM because it records MPEG-2 digital only via firewire, which the VOOM STB does not have. A W-VHS recorder can do the job via component, but those are very expensive and may be obsolete.

    More Good News from VOOM

Absolutely hilarious and my sentiments exactly.

Feb 14 '05: Phillip Swann "Voom Is Still Doomed"... Schmuck!!!

What is this, the new math? Dish = 5 HD channels; Voom = 39 HD channels. I guess are schools really are doing a poor job with match education.

Dolan has to raise financing by Feb. 28 for Voom buy-out

To paraphrase an old saying, put 10 analysts in a room, and you'll get 10 different opinions - all of them wrong.

VOOM Might be gone as early late this week

Whatever happens will happen when it happens. Whether it's days, weeks, months, I'll watch as much HD as I can until Voom goes dark.

    New Software Version 7.34

Maybe 7.34 permanently enables OTA so we can at least use it for that when Voom goes dark.
