How has the weather affected you?

In my little corner of the country, upstate New York, we're use to dealing with lots of snow, the streets get plowed promptly and the airport remains open, although often flights can't get here because others are closed. The killer this year was the extended frigid temperatures. Ten below zero...

    blackout

I remember it too. We lived in the Albany, NY area and my Dad turned his transistor radio and the only station he could pick up was somewhere in West Virginia. People came out of their houses looking to the skies certain that it was a Russian attack.

Why in the world does DMV make you put you put your address on the license ?

I know what you're saying about cops not needing your address, but in a hundred different instances, other than a passport, a driver's license is considered the primary form of ID and for that reason needs your address on it. Personally, I'd prefer some form of universal photo ID card instead...

What Papa John's doesn't want you to know about their food

I've never cared for Papa Johns pizza, or most of the national chains for that matter. Most cities, certainly this one, have a number of great local independent pizza shops. That's were the best ones come from. A little experimenting will usually find the "perfect" pizza for every taste.

Why I Would Never Drive in Russia

Probably just as many crazy drivers in this country and one could do a similar video about them. Looks to me like the snowy and icy roads are not as well taken care of in Russia as they are here however. Of course the pedestrians who step out into traffic without looking are nothing new here...

    Drive in theaters

I worked as a projectionist at drive-ins in years past and always loved it Unfortunately, within the next year or so, many small-town drive-ins, along with indoor theaters will be forced to close. As the motion picture industry finishes its conversion from 35mm film projection to totally...

    starving

I live one of the snowiest city in the U.S. and all the hospitals here have emergency plans for just such events. Doctors, nurses, food service people and other staff are all prepared to stay there until they can be relieved or for the duration. I would find it hard to believe that any hospital...

    I hate glossy plastic.

You might try covering it with a flat black tape. What I'm thinking of use to be called "photographic tape" and was available in camera stores. The nice thing about that was it wasn't permanent and you peel it off with out any damage. You might also try checking with an art supply store and...

And the award for the dumbest crook goes to...

True story. A guy walks into one of our local banks this morning and informs the teller that it's a stickup and to give him $20,000. She hands him over some cash, he leaves and the bank calls the cops. A short time later, the crook discovers he didn't get $20,000 and heads back to the bank...

Ultimate revenge? Recently dumped dentist removes all of her ex's teeth

Coulde be worse. Well, he's lucky she wasn't a surgeon. At least with teeth he can get dentures. I can think of a body part she could have removed that couldn't be replaced and he would certainly miss. :)

    Today's text scam: $1,000 Wal-Mart gift card

I won't be clicking on it. I don't need a measly thousand bucks. Any day now I'm expecting a check for $30 million from a very nice man in Nigeria. :p

    TV guide magazine

So you're the person who still subscribes. I wondered who that was. :) Seriously, If it were me, I would have bought one at the store then contacted TV Guide and told them the mailed copy arrived incomplete, was useless and asked for a credit or an extension of my subscription. Probably happens...

Dry-Cleaning and Doing Your Own Dress Shirts

The Lands End wrinkle free shirts are really good. My wife and I went on a tour of the Canadian Rockies for ten days recently and even after packing and unpacking almost every day, and wearing the shirts more than once they looked great.

    New low for Walmart

Many people today only think of themselves. I'll never forget a few years ago, while at a local supermarket, an elderly women collapsed in the bakery department. The bakery clerk, who happened to be trained in CPR jumped over the counter and started working on her until the paramedics arrived...

    Winter Weather headaches

I live in upstate New York in one of the snowiest cities in the country. Last winter, we got almost 200 inches of snow. Here we expect it and the various communities are prepared for it. Even the smallest villages have snow fighting equipment. The roads stayed open and the airport closed once...

    buying FTA equipment from Canada

Unless it's something that's on a TSA's "forbidden list", I doubt you'd have any trouble, just be sure you have some sort of receipt or bill of sale, preferably with serial numbers. Also, remember that you need a passport now. Not so much to get into Canada, but to get back in this country.

Small Town Theater owners feeling the pinch from digital delivery

Digital is going to be a problem for many theaters especially those in little towns and small cities. It will really affect those that are just barely making it now. It's much like the late 1920's when talkies came in. Many theaters closed because the owners couldn't afford the cost to...

I buy all of mine online for about three bucks each and never had a bad one. I borrowed a hundred dollar cable from a friend once just to see if it made a difference and it didn't.

    what channels

I think as long as they have an audience and it's a viable business any channel should exist. It would be pretty presumptuous of me to think that just because I don't don't watch a channel it should go dark.

Canada replacing cloth money bills with plastic for security

Many people are surprised that the U.S. still issues two dollar bills. Unless you ask for them at the bank you rarely see one and then clerks give you funny looks and think they're not real. It would be logical for the government to boost the circulation of them along with dollar coins and...

Another question about a riding lawnmower

Sorry about your mother. You might want to check with a couple of local dealers. If you don't hit them up when they're busy, like on a Saturday, most will give you a rough idea what you might be able to get for it. You might even get an offer, although it would probably be less than if you sold...

When getting a debit card (and a checking account) does it matter what bank you use?

I agree with that. I've been banking at a small one-office local bank for over twenty years and it's great. I've never paid a penny in fees. I'd never go back to a major bank. Credit unions are good too.
