looking to expand into the c world

Thats a real good reason not to spend money on a new setup, I'd look for a free one that someone is looking to get off their property, you can set it up and if worse comes to worse and the town says "take it down" then you are only out your time.

looking to expand into the c world

There are probably a lot of free ones around you if you look a bit, saving the $$ of a new one might be a factor in getting the missus to warm to a 10 footer. There is a lot more dvb-s2 on c-band than ku, you wont' see much of it with a six foot dish. That is a nice site you have there to plant...

    12ft Channelmaster Find!

That is one big honking dish! Looks like its almost new. You shouldn't have any trouble locking dvb-s2 signals.:up

    Precision, Threaded Feed-horns ???

Greg, that is a good idea with the dowel pins and hose clamp:up I'm going to try that this spring when I do the seasonal re-aim. If I'm understanding the threaded throat/scaler correctly won't it cause a conflict when you are trying to keep the skew(throat roatation) right and the f/D at the...

New old ADL Feedhorn need info.

"Worlds first elbowless lnb" gotta love it:D Gary (Satellite City) talked me into buying one and it turned out to be a nice Cal-Amp 30 degree so I wouldn't throw it out unless I gave it a try. Its not a Cal-Amp for sure but it might work ok provided lightning didn't get it over the years. BTW...

    GBox subforum

Have a look at this thread http://www.satelliteguys.us/free-air-fta-discussion/187222-g-box-v3000-fuse-reset.html Doesn't sound exactly like what you are experiencing but you might pick up a hint or two there that could be helpful.

    V-BOX 6 or G Box V3000

I'm using a GeosatPro c/ku lnbf that I bought from SatelliteAv a couple of years ago. Just a hint, if you buy one, take off the cap and throw it away you will gain signal. The reflector is 10', and it works pretty well on Dvb-s2. Its amazing it does as well as it does with all the hail dents in...

    V-BOX 6 or G Box V3000

I also controlled my dish with an analog receiver for many years, it was an extra key press on a separate remote but I found myself using the dish a lot more after I got the Gbox and an lnbf. I think I lost a little signal with the lnbf compared to my cal amp lnbs but for me it was a good trade...

    V-BOX 6 or G Box V3000

I like my Gbox, I haven't had a problem with it during the 1.5 yrs I"ve had it. It seems to be quite accurate and easy to use. Three digits is a little disappointing, I guess I should be happy with my Gbox's 6 digit display.:)

    V-BOX 6 or G Box V3000

The Gbox 3000 has a six digit display, I wish it was more, also, 99 satellite capacity, I'm curious how the Vbox 6 compares to those numbers?

    Length of pole (mast)

Make sure to measure your mount hole diameter, some are 3.5 but not all of them. I have one that takes a 4.5" pole. You could always use an adapter but its simpler just to have the right size pole. Some of us are in frost- snow areas, if you are then you need to take into consideration how deep...

    Identify this feedhorn

I used one of these for nearly 20 years, can't remember where I bought it now. It is stamped with the California Amplifier tag but I think ADL made them. There were at least three versions, rp/1, 2 and 3. Because the scaler is fixed these feeds need extension bolts to get them to the proper...

C band Back in the day

Someone mentioned "ice lnb" in this thread. I bought one of those things, turned out to be a Cal Amp 30 degree, nice lnb but of course I paid way more than what they were going for. I still have it and it still works fine, must be close to 20 years old now. Gary Cubeta, the guy who hosted and...

pulling my hair out aligning dish

Good Lord Tvropro you ARE old!!:D I thought it was Doug Dennert? Long time ago, maybe I'm wrong. I learned the same way, agonizingly slow but I enjoyed it, I bought those satellite books that those guys were selling, that helped me a lot to understand the theory. This stuff certainly isn't plug...

Star Trak 6ft BUD is up

Nice looking dish Jullius, not bad for $20 I must say. I haven't used a feedhorn cover for 25 years. They make good places for critters like you've found out and they catch a lot of wind. I always figured they were mostly for advertising, at least in the early days the dish manufacturers always...

morse code on c band audio

This was one of the fun things I used to do back in the analog days. It was part of the reason I got my morse code endorsement, I was curious what the beacon ID's were.

    NASA on AMC-7 @ 137W and polarity

I get both 72 and 137 pretty strong here but 137 is deep "in the weeds" for elevation. It looks like the face of the dish is just about perpendicular to the ground.

Does anyone do any C/Ku satellite DXing???

You're welcome, I enjoyed it too and watched it a few times now. I found the sliding and rotating feeds interesting.
