46 inch tv Vs 42 Inch tv

I understand the 46 inch is bigger, duh ! but i hadnt really noticed tv's that size until just recently, is there a better explanation on why i am seeing sony and others now creating 46 inch tv's

Do the 16:9 ratios work better or something else. Curious Minds
 
What technology are you talking about? Newer LCD plants make larger panels.
46" panels may maximize the profit margin and reduce waste.

The raw panels (up to 108") may produce the same number of 46" panels as 42" panels. If you can't cut 4 42" panels but can cut either 3-42" with waste or 3-46" with little waste and charge more for 46" panels which would you do?
 
so the 2 i saw recently were LCD's. Thanks for an answer, reason I ask is i am thinking of buy another TV and the 46 vizio at Costco is only 100 dollars more than the 42 but wanted to be sure in this case that bigger was better ! :D base don your answer my viewing would not be worse.
