Are these 5 mega dish's located at his house? That what it looks like. These are what XM uses to broadcast their channels up to the satellite's. Why would anyone want them for personal use? He forgot to mention that you have to supply the concrete base on each one.

Seems like its some kind of uplink satellite transmitting to the satellite, or can receive signals even during heavy rain to prevent outages.

That's weird to see stuff like that on ebay. I work for the company that built that antenna. Oh, and it's not Vertek, it's Vertex. (Incidentally, Voom also buys our 7200 controllers and digital tracking receivers)
