A kids movie gets interrupted by porn.

EA transponder 12428 @ 72 satellite is home to both ch 172 and 493 but on different V pids 5922 & 4162, with Hopper if you block the signal at your dish or disconnect the cable to mimic a signal loss event you may find your receiver acts in a similar way. Since I have neither hopper or EA I couldn't test the theory.

I think we have our answer. 493 USED to be on 72.7, TP 15, where 172 (the channel she recorded) is. This uplink from a week ago shows it was moved, I'm guessing in response to this incident.

So the hopper has a bug that makes it grab the wring video PIDs far a particular channel. Wonder if there are any more 480-499 range channels that share TP space with kids channels.

For those saying it was an accidental PPV purchase, I think Dish would have pointed it out. For those saying it wouldn't decode it, why not, if the receiver thought it was tuning Disney? PPV gets no special encryption in the stream.

I guess my question would be, why are a three and five year old in a room unsupervised by a parent while watching tv. I think it's unrealistic to expect a DVR to be the perfect baby sitter. I have my grand kids many hours each week and my five year old grand daughter has no problem getting where she wants to go on my iPad. If I'm not right their with her she will go on Netflix and HBO GO and have access to what I don't have blocked. I certainly wouldn't put it past a five year old having the skills to manipulate a remote control and end up watching something they shouldn't be watching. Grow up and take ownership for what's yours to own, your kids and there personnel safety.

I don't understand why everyone is so quick to say that couldn't have possibly been Dish's fault.

It seems pretty evident to me that it is.I also stand by my statement that it has happened in the past.I'm also pretty sure that there have been instances of ppv movie channels suddenly being on even though they weren't purchased. Now whether it's bugs in Dish's s/w or human error pressing the wrong button, that is the real question.

This happened to Bell Expressvu a few times..especially after a WWE PPV. In Canada, Cineplex/Famous Players will show a WWE PPV live so imagine a cinema room full of people watching Evan Stone laying the smack down on his wife right after ol' JR thanked the viewers for purchasing the PPV.

Cheers, K

It happens. I've had it happen on my 722k and my hopper both. NO NOT porn ,but sometimes the channel it says it is recording is not that channel. I will get a recording with the right name title and information but it is another channel entirely that is recorded. IF I have a recording timer set to go off on my hopper and I turn the channel at the same time the timer is set to go off I can end up with the new channel I tune to recording instead of the channel the timer is setup for. I don't' know why the porn appeared in the middle of the Hbo channel ,but I 'm sure it happened.

Now for the mother leaving her kids alone to watch a tv show ,while she did something in the kitchen. GIVE ME & HER a BREAK. If you didn't use the tv to occupy your kids from time to time , she wouldn't get anything else done . I know I have a son and the 721pvr was in his room ,keeping him occupied while I cleaned, did laundry ,cooked etc. He has the Joey now and he is 12. He hasn't ever NOT had a dvr in his life. That is why programming packs are designed to appeal to kids with all the Disney channels , Nickelodeon channels etc. I don't think it 's reasonable to suggest that the poor woman sit down with her kids to watch every kid show and not get anything else done .

I hope we hear how this eventually turns out. Since it would seem they sub to porn and didn't have a lock on, I suspect it might not go too far. Might be an easy settlement.

OK. It was a technical glitch. It will be fixed. Dish has already moved content to different transponders as an interim fix.

The mother is making more out of it than it really is. I doubt that her son will be any more traumatized by seeing a few seconds of porn than he will be by still sucking on that ridiculous pacifier at 3 years old.

To me this solo move is an admission of guilt by dish and just another bandaid solution.

Indeed, considering the Prayer channel is on TP 14. There will be even bigger blowback if someone watching that channel gets something they don't expect.

Dish should consolidate adult programming on TPs with other adult-minded stuff, like (non-family) premium feeds and stuff like MTV, E!, Spike, and what not.

Nowhere is it indicate they sub to it. What is apparent is the receiver got its packet IDs mixed up, and played 492 as 172. Locks would not help, as the receiver thought it was playing the Disney channel.

You think the mistake would go so far as to latch on to an unauthorized channel?

No kidding. I had my twins off of pacifiers by 4 months.

The words their and there should be reversed in this reply. It's one of my pet peeves there, their and they're.

Conan O' Brian just mentioned this in his monologue a few minutes ago on his how although he sort of got the story wrong saying that the problem came from Disney channel itself and not from Dish. (He didn't even mention Dish at all.) Makes me wonder if Dish paid him to make Disney look bad.;)
