Amazon to offer indie films on HD DVD exclusively

Actually the thread title is a bit misleading. It is not Amazon that is being exclusive it is Microsoft. Microsoft is doing the encoding for free for HD DVD. Amazon just burns a copy of whatever movie is ordered.

It would be nice if more distribution was done this way, one could order any movie and get it vs having to carry inventory on old obscure movies (or in this case new obscure movies).

I would agree it is not that amazon has made some decision not to carry any BD versions. It is just that they will offer this---which BTW is good news for HD DVD owners aand indie fil makers.

This is also a good move by the HD-DVD camp. This will enable them to quickly run up the title count on HD-DVD. It will look good when they can post a number like:

HD-DVD 2000 movies
BD 1500 Movies

Of course one would have to know the real story that 1000 are indies and 1000 big studio vs 1500 big studios.
