An Apology to the FTA Community

Yes, you have to be logged in to see the WUT. But the WUT is also invite only. Just because you log into the site here doesn't mean you can see the WUT.

Rick believes anyone should be able to see feed info, without having to log in. Here you have to log in AND be invited to see the WUT.

If we as a site are asking or at least suggesting that the best solution at this moment is require just logging in to see feed info, why isn't that good enough for the WUT? Why does it also have to be invite only? Again, I have WUT access to so it's not like I'm looking to get access when I ask the question. Just playing devil's advocate here.

I explained this earlier in the thread. We had it setup so that you just needed to login to WUT before but many members asked us to change it to the way it is now.

I believe that protected by login is fine myself, but we are here to serve you guys and give you what you want.

Btw you don't need to be invited to join WUT just need to apply for access And be approved.

I have been aware that wut pertains to the wildfeeds but what does the accronym stand for:"wildfeed, ______ , ________" ?Thanks.

I find it so humorous to read posts from people who say things like "Yeah right like CBS did not know it was ITC and people were watching it!" These people obviously don't "get it" or ever worked in the "business"

Of course the tech guys at the teleport know people can watch the feeds, it is not their job to care or do anything about it. They are told to feed show "X" to Canada and they do what they are told. The people who are finding Rick's and caring are the network execs / suits etc. They know as much about satellite as a random person walking down the street who never has had a C-Band/KU system. They have no idea that people can watch feeds or anything like that. When they find out they get very upset, that is when they call down to the teleport and say 2 words "fix it" and then that is when the fat lady sings so to speak. The tech people are not going to encrypt unless they are told too by the higher bosses. Those bosses are the people that need to be kept out of FTA sections, but it appears the cat is out of the bag as most networks are well aware about Rick's site.

I remember back in the late 1980's the big 3 networks ABC/NBC/CBS scrambled their analog feeds to the stations. CBS used Videocipher I, ABC used Leitch, and I believe that NBC also used Leitch, I think. They were concerned about a couple million dish owners being able to watch the direct feeds instead of their local stations. We find ourselves in the same situation again. I truly don't know how many people are still watching C-Band these days. I had hoped with all of the rumors about C-Band 4DTV dying on Dec 31 this year that we'd see more stuff going into the clear, because they would be under the perception that C-Band users were no longer able to watch the signals on C-Band. People posting these feeds on public websites is really not helping things. If everybody could keep their finds under wrap, or at least in an area that can't be indexed by google, I think we'd see more stuff in the clear - just because they'd think that 'nobody' is watching.

I just dont understand why broadcasters would go out of there way to stop such a few from watching.

It seems that it isn't the "just viewing" that is the problem. Asia is a rampant source of pirated material. If you were a pirate and could get your hands on 100% clean program material, instead of material with bugs and snipes, wouldn't you want to get your hands on it? Especially when it make your "releases" more popular, i.e., sell more, than the other guy.

Here we have a fine example of the OP trying to do the right thing, and a few posts later some dumb*ss takes the info, and posts it in plain text PURPOSELY! ...DUMB*SS! Thunder - Ricks Satellite Wildfeed and Backhaul Forum ...with an excuse about seeing it on a cellphone.

While I agree that accessing the net on a cellphone is lame (if I wanted mobile internet access, I'd carry a computer), he later makes a good point about not being able to even use the board's own search function with images.

I've been a BUDhead for around 20 years, so none of what has transpired over the years is not new to me. The networks just love me. I might be near the top of 20th Century Fox's public enemy list. It seems I've been mentioned at various broadcast meetings, and not with love either. I get the impression that Fox would have us believe that they do not exist on any bird. They hate it when we talk about what they have up there. There is no law against discussing what it there, though they would believe otherwise. I've talked about Fox event feeds, without any indication of where said feed is, yet they would love to make me go away.

In any event, a few years ago (don't remember how many now) I created an account on Rick's forum. Rick basically, wow, the famous Mr Video has joined the forum. Then I did a posting condemning the posting of digital feeds in an open forum is asking for trouble. Well, it didn't take long for Rick to pull the posting and probably remove my account. I have no idea, has he put my IP address in his banned list. I can't even access the URL to just read things.

All summer long Ascent was feeding new stuff to Canada FTA (ABC Studios product). A week or two after those feeds started show up in Rick's forum, they turned on encryption. Now, the same thing has happened with the CBS feeds.

Warner Bros. product was the first to encrypt. NBC Universal product, while being fed by Warner Bros. GDMX, stayed FTA. That changed last season, when NBCU finally requested encryption.

20th Century Fox product has been encrypted for ages, ever since they went digital. Sure, there was a relatively short period of time where Fox wasn't encrypted, due to an issue with closed captioning data and encryption not getting along. It wasn't worth trying to find the software fix, if there even was one possible, as they were dropping that delivery system for a new DVB-S2 8PSK system. With the old system you needed a really perfect TVRO setup to get the old DVB-S 8PSK feeds anyway. The new DVB-S2 delivery system was borderline for me, but I was able to get the feeds. Then they finally turned encryption back on.

As of now, there are no Canadian feeds that are FTA. Every production house now has their product encrypted, mostly because of postings to Rick's site.

I personally could care less about sports, but more and more of those backup feeds are being encrypted. Fiber is the main connection for sports, with satellite only being a backup.

Stateside syndicated product is not encrypted, nor do I expect it to any time soon. The pirates aren't really interested in talk shows and repeated old network shows. :D

Wouldn't a robots.txt file, or META tag keep g**gle, and others, from crawling the posts?(?)
Block or remove pages using a robots.txt file - Webmaster Tools Help
There have been a number of posts here about Robot.txt files.

They don't work. (See the other posts for links to examples. Unfortunately the bots do not have to follow the robots.txt if they don't want to. :()

Besides Rick does not have file access on webtoolbox.com so he can not put in a robots.txt file if he wanted to.

Thats one of the downfalls of having your forums on a site that costs $9.99 a month.(Thats not a cut on his site or the way it operates, I am just saying that with that kind of account you do not get file access... you run what they (the hosting company) gives you and you like it.) :)

Sorry to bring this old thread back from the dead but I got some real interesting information.

When the Turner guys where in town for a NBA game, my friend was working in the production truck and I got the pleasure of meeting some one who is really high up the chain (For privacy reasons I do not want to post his name on a public forum, I don't want him to think I post private conversations on the internet, if any staff wants to know I will be more then happy to provide the info) To be blunt he is the one who "made the call" to have Turner sports feeds encrypted.

I only talked to him for 2/3 minutes but I made sure and brought up the encryption. His exact quote was "I don't give a **** if Joe Schmoe is watching the feeds in their home, now if Joe Schmoe advertises that he is watching these feeds and is encouraging others to do so by posting feed information on the internet then I have a problem with that" he also "Had a problem with someone making a living off said feeds"

He also told me some one at Nascar has a personal problem with Rick and his site. This person sent him links to every Turner Sports post in the last year on Rick's site in a email and urged him to check it out and to do something about it. My guess is this person did the same thing w/ESPN (This is 100% my guess NO inside info there) But that is why Turner feeds disappeared the same weekend they took over Nascar.

I really wish I could of had a audio recording of the conversation, it would put any doubters to rest for good.

He also explained to me Turner has moved all feeds to MPEG 4 HIGH 4:2:2 Profile Video starting with this NBA season. I don't even think there is any consumer receivers that will decode that, so we would of lost the feeds anyway in theory, but for security reasons they are going to keep the BISS encryption on because they maybe software decoders out there. But still the Turner encryption has everything to do with Rick and his site. That is 100% fact, right from the horses mouth! They are also using Ateme DR8400 receivers to decode the video (very pricey) and Ateme encoders in the HurstUSA uplink trucks.

Good info b5, I don't doubt your story a bit. Just seems logical to me, I wonder why the person responsible for most of this doesn't want to see it that way. {insert Cut off Nose to Spite Face cartoon here}

I have a close freind working at one network, and a family member at another, Ricks site along with another was brought up in a meeting, I was told about what feed would go and they did, my buddy told me that they are aware of his site abnd already have encrypted as every event was posted there in the open easy to find.

The harder to get into a feed posting site the better, as many in the industry would not bother as the harder to get in the less people will go through the ropes making the unauthorized viewing very small.

Rick is known as the man that rather fill his pockets over protecting feed info, the more info available at ease for all eyes to see the more receivers sold. Didn't have much respect for him since back in the day when he stole info from a secrit site and posted on his, braking the rules, if I recall it was his site to promoting the free porn in DC to sell 4d's.

I do not post feed anymore, me and my 6 friends are tight on msn and share among each other, many times our finding eventually end up on ricks but not all the time, I do admit I go there when there is a ppv event to see if some morion posted it, and what do you know lol. Anyways I guess it's all about the money for some people.

I have no doubt the ones in charge encrypt when they read it as it is being found by the internet bots. However, I do have this to say, people go there because people post the info they are looking for. Unlike even here where it is hidden there are only rare posts on feed info when some event is happening.
I am not going to bring up particulars but there is one recent one that was posted there that has not been seen on this forum, and this is not an isolated incident this is more the norm for here anyway.
Even with that being said, I wish that anyone posting there would be a bit more discrete in the titles and the wording of the posts, even this would help.
What do I mean? Well, if you see a racing event, the title could be called, "special feed" in the body you do not name the real event but say something like, "If you like speed then take a look", or a boxing event could be titled, "Really Live", in the body, "if you like to see a couple of people duke it out then check it out". That plus the warning to others to please do not reply with the actual name of what it is.
Nothing would indicate the actual name or who is fighting who or who is uplinking it, or which pay channel is carrying it.
This would satisfy everyone involved, as long as anyone posting does not name the real names.
Even Lyngsat does not post the real info on this, it is listed as "Feeds".
The old saying is true, 'loose lips sinks ships' can be applied to this.
Sad part of all this is it appears from some of the postings that this is a vendetta by someone who is not happy with the one who controls the site.
That is just so childish.

Long time lurker here. I’ve written a book about free TV, I’m wondering if I should includ the channels at 101 that are mainstream cable channels. I understand there is a hesitance to talking about such channels because they may get encrypted. They are posted at both lyngsat and FTA List. What do you all think? Is it safe?
