Globally....US citizens are referred to as Yankees, or Yanks. Same as Canadians being called "Canuks".
Nothing derogatory about it.

Yeah! Down here we make distinctions.

And speaking of butchering the English language, I personally hate hate hate the "ain't got" construction. What's your most hated butchery?
