Ok... The VS Pro is a piece of crap and I would like to get a new receiver
I I have 2 options.. AZBox or Dreambox. I know both receivers run on a Linux platform which is very cool since I use Linux (Ubuntu) Which one would suggest?

azbox

If I remember correctly, the Dreambox doesnt do 4:2:2 or DVB-S2
I thought the newer 800/8000 series did DVB-S2
Dreambox owners get around the 4:2:2 and HD stuff by streaming the TP over the LAN to a PC. Let a PC codec handle what the Dreambox's video out couldn't.
Cludgy to set up but it works better than forking out extra cash when the Azbox HD wasn't on the market.

I second the Azbox.
"Just works" for almost everything up there in DVB

I have had dreamboxes for some years in Europe and like them so am probably biased. The Dreambox,8000 does HD but I think it is too expensive. There are many linux HD and PVR ready machines on the market now but not enough reviews yet

IMO, Azbox gives you more for the money. I bought one and am satisfied with it. Nevertheless, it is kind of flakey and still being developed.

I think the Dreambox is a more mature platform (been around a while longer) and you pay more for it. However, the DM8000 is new, so there are some issues there as well.

I love the DM800 with the Pli software in it, absolutely bomb proof.
Has all the satellites.xml in it for all the current FTA channels across the globe.

Well... After looking over the specs of both DM8000 and the HD Premium, I have decided to look into the AZBOX HD Premium.. Does anyone know of any Canadian distributors?

I think this is the top comment I've seen AZbox v Dream box. :up

I would add Dreambox has massive support in house and 3rd party.

I dont think there are any. Most of us have purchased from Ebay but I checked the guy I bought mine from (azboxmiami) and to Canada its $50 to ship. But still under $300 shipped :)

I'm waiting for rps satellite to bring them in if they ever do??? I have asked a few times and was told they will bring in when blind scan is added as a feature, it has been a few months and nothing... I was thinking of getting one off ebay but I will give it a bit more time.

I live in BC and got it off ebay from azboxmiami, I looked at getting it at maritime-fta.com but it was way more expensive and that didn't include shipping and tax. ( I checked and they are currently out of stock anyway).
azboxmiami shipped it to canada for $50... The nice thing is that on the outside of the package it was quoted as being worth $60 so CandaPost didn't bother with collecting GST. (and the associated handling fees)
