Here are a few pictures I took from video tapes I have back in the day from C band approx 1988-1990. Some will remember this stuff. This will be a treat to the nu bees just getting into it.

The pictures are of Much music Canada on Anik 1 (the original). The Sky Store on Westar 5. and Viewers Choice 1 on G3.

Enjoy :D

oh yes c band

I don't have any vid's. But those memories (from my childhood of the friends cband system) is what got me to start searching for what was currently out there. The sad thing is first I found D**H hack. Then after a little more digging I found what I consider the major hall of DVB standard and FTA receivers.

My Two Cents.

Thanks,

Josh

I have all kind of stuff on like 1000 tapes and not enough time in this century to go through it all :(

The Sky Store! Wow. I bought a bunch of stuff from them. They had a reciever with a 70 Mhz IF that had tremendous video (for the time) I probably paid 100 times what I sold it for on e-bay a few years ago. Now, if I could only remember the name of it.......memory is the second thing to go!

Eric

same here and no working VHS player, going to have to breakdown and get one just for some Home Movies etc...

I have 4 working VCR's and going to start looking for good working Hi-Fi and SVHS units to pick up for nickels and dimes at thrift stores, garage sales etc. I will need something to keep watching my archives well into the future. :D

Picture number 3 looks like a Videocipher with a stereo processor unit on top. When I bought my first C band system in '86, the receiver was a Drake unit with a remote having only a few buttons... when you tuned to one of the Telstar birds and went to audio subcarriers you could actually listen to one side of the conversation on phone calls -- AT&T, I think, though my memory is fuzzy. Anyone remember the names of some of the ITC movie channels back in the day?:)

The Drake stereo processor was similar but It's a Drake ESR-324 receiver...

SelecTV, Home Theater Network, Request TV, Spotlight to name a few...My ex wife locked it on Viewers Choice most of the time. Around 1987 I finally wised up and added a second system so I could watch college sports and racing....

Ah!!! thats the one. The "remote" plugged into the wall and communicated with the STB thru the AC wiring. Wouldn't work unless they were on the same circuit.
Now I'll be able to sleep tonite:) Then I got my first VCII from them as well. Come to think of it, my only VCII. Divorce will change your life!

Thanks!

How well are the tapes holding up???

The first VCR in my parents household was in 1977 and she was a beast!

The first tape we got could record 30 minutes! And it cost $30! Soon with the fast paced technology the 6 hour tapes and machines were out. The tapes dropped to a mere $25 each for 6 hours. When they went on sale at the local electronic shop for $20 each, I would rush in and buy 5 for a total of $100 plus 6% PA sales tax! The tape quality seemed great and they could be used over and over and the ones that I saved the recording lasted for quite a few years. When the tape price dropped to the $7.50 to $10 range is when the tapes began to disintegrate either by using them too much or storing them too long.
I must say that some of the $1 tapes which were the last ones I bought are decent! I often think of these high tape prices while I put down a $5 prerecorded DVD and wonder...

pro96,
Home team Sports, was the channel you cheer for! lol
