I'm guessing that even with all this information, adding such functionality to the microHD is not feasible?

It is highly unlikely that the microHD will be developed to mix-down the NBC audio.

What have we learned?

These audio PIDs are not just independent 5.1 channels, but instead a processed signal which required specialized ecoder/decoders. The unique audio processing required by the NBC feeds is not a Dolby or MPEG standard and not natively supported by any receiver chipsets. While I believe that combining multiple APIDs is possible, supporting this 3rd party audio solution would require extensive development resources and licensing fees to implement for the microHD.

Reviewing the previous posts by Kingofku, specialized equipment is readily available to decode an ASI stream to provide live mix-down audio. A less expensive way (but not real-time) would be to record the TS stream using a PCI card and use a downmix program to decode.
