Charlie Chat Tonight

actually when you're setting up a timer from the guide and it's blacked out, it won't let you so no "3 hours of program not available in your area" in your dvr, not sure what happens if you setup a manual timer though

I think the biggest news was that if you have a missing network, either by disagreement, by your DMA just not having one or you are out of ota range, you can get a distant network through AAD beginning Saturday.
I thought that's what they said as well. Only trouble... I remember no such legislation passing Congress! Is this just a rules change by the FCC? Either way, there should be confirmation somewhere on a .gov website.

You hit the nail on the head!!! Congress hasn't past legislation BANNING this YET.. Kinda like the early days of DBS all over again!!
( analog laws sunset no new replacement digital laws yet)

THE RULES CHANGE with the digital transition.

Sort of like Charlie saying screw you to Fisher Broadcasting.

If your local station plays too much hardball Charlie does an alley-oop over their head.

If I get a $1 off my subscription for losing KIRO, and I pay $3.50 to AAD for ABC, should I be happy Charlie put one over on Fisher? I'm not a math major, but I think I'm getting alley-ooped out of $2.50/month.

A new Turner mux showed up on Galaxy 14 Cband about two weeks ago. Channels included in the mux were TCM HD, TruTV HD and a slot for Headline News HD. I don't have any information on when the official launch might be or if Dish will add them.

Cool, thanks.

TruTV and HLN were rolling around the HD rumor mill a few months back, but this is the first I've heard about TCM other than the "someday" rumors that have been around for years and years. I remember there was a webpage somewhere with a list of HD channels "coming soon"...TCM was on there, along with a bunch of stuff that never happened, like HDNet Sports.

EDIT- The AVS HD Channel list still doesn't list TCM even as an announced channel, but someone posted on the 5th that it is available, and that Cablevision will be carrying it.

TruTV and HLN do not appear on the "announced" list either. Guess Turner likes to keep things on the DL.

It's possible that a blackout can occur on a local RSN such as when another carrier purchases the rights to broadcast that game such as ESPN or a network.

Why on earth would an REGIONAL Sports Network broadcast a game that no one in their REGION could watch?

It's the other way around...the game would be blacked out on ESPN.

An RSN will blackout some of it's programming if the team does not have all the rights in it's coverage area.

For instance, Fox Sports South will cover some Atlanta Braves games, but has to black those games out in Florida Which has Fox Sports South but is not part of the Braves territory.

What do you get on the others that might cover you?

TCM in HD (and then actually broadcasting their movies in HD) would get me off of the HD absolute package.

In a perfect HD world, with Turbo getting all the HDs, TCM was the channel that would have tipped me over from Classic. Now that only some HD is put into that package I'll take it any way I can get it.

Not that they are known for their accuracy, wikipedia claims that TruTV IS in HD.

It's not sourced, so take it with a grain of salt.

Good point, but that not the example the other guy gave.

I live in Arizona. If ESPN is airing a Diamondbacks game and they have the rights to air it nationwide, then why would FSAZ even bother to show up?
