Clicks and no VU meters

I just installed the new 1.6 beta. The VU mters jump to about half scale and do not move again. Also, every time the channel is changed and usually when a new song starts, there are two loud clicks heard in the audio. These were also present in the 1.5 beta but not in versions before that. These two problems make the program quite useless for recording..

It sounds like your audio levels are not set correctly.

Hi, I'm very computer illiterate and can't figure out how to adjust my VU meter. The levels are "kissing the red" and I can't lower them.

Any suggestions?
