My receiver is 10 years old or really close to it, so I am presuming the battery has a year or 2 at best before failing. I have the tools to replace it, but not the knowledge or experience. Who would I send the box to replace the battery? Not Best Buy I'm sure.

If you know someone who is very good at soldering electronics and is patient, the videos available online about changing the batteries make it easy. The job can be done in a fairly short time, and it probably is more than time if your unit is of that age. I've been getting friends ready to sign up as (new) DSR-410 subscribers, and a couple of the boxes we put batteries in had voltages 1/3 less than their rating. Don't wait too long!

I do not see anything in the data stream as far as channel maps or guide info.
Can not be certain if they are sending out any receiver hits or not since I slaved a spare 921 to the 922 receiver.
Usually it would have updated the channel maps and picked up the guide but it has done neither.
I have tested out C3/G1 & G0 to see if anything would change as far as channel updates/maps and guide on G1.
Nothing.

Looks to be much more difficult than when I replaced my VC2 battery. Looks like my 4DTV was built in 2001.

Thanks. I just watched the video on how to replace the battery. I have minor experience with soldering circuit boards from a long time ago. I have a lighted magnifying face shield like a welders helmet I've never used & this looks like a perfect opportunity. And if I fail, I always have my 3 OTA stations I can watch temporarily.

The thing I think most of the info on the web stresses (and we followed when we did mine and the 410's for friends) was to get the new "in place" before removing the old. Can't remember which receivers had a small capacitor holding the charge for the memory, but small is the word, so don't take chances. Go carefully, new "in" first, old "out" second. And, if uncomfortable, find your favorite tech guru that is good with small item soldering.

In a way, I wish I had gotten the satellite tile needed so I could make my 922 ready for the HITS stream. Maybe there will be a way yet, but at least as a "mover" its good to go!

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll start looking locally for a battery tomorrow.

Funny thing is the 921 will pull in the 11.71 & 9.76 bit-rate signals but the 920 will not do them.

also noticed that when on W5-216 or use a generic with that same freq. it will (in 5 minutes or so) put the X4 satellite in the receiver.
I still had the AI icon on a receiver that had not been plugged in since the AI was first sent out and it changed to X4 but I had to do an options-6-4-4 and program it in again.
Channel count also went up to the same as what the 922 (which had the work around procedure done on it) has.

So you're saying its possible I could grab that tile yet, and be okay for the conversion by parking on W-5 216? What about leaving it on overnight? too long? Risky at all in best opinion of those assembled? Until Z/G-boxes arrive, the 4D is my only mover for the FTA. (though I have no plans for a master reset, so I suppose its safe no matter what)

I don't think you would have a problem leaving it on W5-216 overnight.
I take it you have a 922? It would be good to know which receivers we are talking about before giving an answer as it can be slightly different on certain receivers.
In this case I don't think it would make a difference though.

try to tune 602 @ w5. see if it maps x4 for you. it updated my incorrect x4 maps.

crackt out,.

Got the DCII light this morning on 602 at 8:30, will check what she does and report! Would be nice not to have a brick, or...just a "mover". If the V-box will play nicely with my system, this box will be available for other friends who have birdviews and want W-5 systems for HITS.

I'm sure my 922 is about to need a new battery. Where are these videos?

If they're still up, they're here:

DSR-922 Battery Replacement Instructions

And, I'll apologize in advance if they're from one of our members. I don't know who did them, but they were great for my friend (who's more "geek" than I and much more patient) to get the concept of what to look for and how to do the 922 battery. I owe a debt of thanks to whomever put this up back a few years ago.
