DirecTV announces new local H/D DMA's(Local HD Programming In 76 Markets by Mid-2008)

Sinclair already has an agreement with Directv. They signed on 2 1/2 years ago.

I dont think it's just those two corps. that is holding everything up in this area.

WVEC- ABC : owned by BELO corp.

WTKR- CBS : owned by Oak Hill Capital Partners

WAVY- NBC and FOX 43 - FOX : owned by LIN

MYTV- : owned by SINCLAIR

WGNT- CW: owned by CBS corp

Now.....does all the other stations have an agreement with D*, and LIN is the only one that does not? If so....screw LIN and fire up the rest.

Des Moines, IA didn't get on this list but Waterloo and Cedar Rapids, IA did? Omaha, NE to the west is also on the list.

Des Moines was on that older roll out list back in 2006.

Bummer. Any idea why for this location?

Do any of you guys know anything about Colorado Springs? It's 93 on the DMA rankings. I've heard it's just a matter of paper work. Anything?

Just courious why you keep saying Sinclair is a problem for Directv? There are many markets today that are up and operational that have Sinclair stations. I just happen to live in a Sinclair market (2 stations) and have both stations up in HD with Directv.

D* should just fire up Richmond, but read DirecTv hasn't even approached any of my affiliates yet.

ABC - Young Broadcasting (they own Green Bay's ABC and it is up and available)
CBS/CW - Raycom (any market where DirecTV is showing locals has a Raycom channel running)
NBC - Lincoln (they own CBS in Charlotte, and it is available)
FOX - Sinclair (any market where DirecTV is showing locals has all Sinclair Big Four channels available)

So I don't think an agreement is the issue. It appears the major players already have one.

Wilkes Barre HD's

Any time frame on Wilkes Barre/Scranton? I've been suffering long enough.

GOOD NEWS! 16 (ABC) and 56 (FOX) are already on the Directv lineup in HD. I found out accidentally today, so not sure when they added it.

Now we just have to wait for CBS, NBC, and PBS. Now I won't have to mess around with this crappy indoor antenna anymore...

My zip is 57006. I am roughly 55 miles away from my local stations so I can pick up the HD signals over the air. My main issue is that out local Fox does not broadcast in HD. The NFC playoffs and the Super Bowl are on Fox and I will not be able to watch it in HD. Needless to say, I'm pissed. Why will D* not give me the East Coast feed of Fox if my local affiliate does not even broadcast in HD? $1700 for my 50" Plasma, $300 for the HR-20, and HD programming fees on top of it. And I will not get to see the Cowboys back in the Super Bowl playing in HD!!!!

The reason is because DirecTV does not approve, deny nor control who can and can't get access to DNS. They are sent info based on DMA zips and are TOLD what to enforce by law; that simple. If you are being denied, you need to take it up with your local affiliate and the FCC through the documented process. I doubt you will meet the Super Bowl date however at this point.

Seems your local FOX is KTTW VHF freq #7 out of Sioux Falls, SD and is retransmitted to your area via translator (repeater) K50DG on freq #50 at 107° and 1.4m based on your zip. Tough break! Try adding a deep fringe UHF/VHF combo OTA and you should get it OTA; seeing you say you can get the other right?

I just spoke to Paula Hersh of WWBT, the local NBC affiliate in Richmond, She said that they have had an agreement with DirecTV for a number of years now to broadcast in HD. Is the holdup at D*?

E* announced on Jan 7 that Richmond, VA local will be in HD.

It is more than likely a technical holdup. They may need DirecTV 11 launched and in service in order to provide Richmond.

Maybe, but why announce the other smaller markets before Richmond?

It isn't necessarily that spot-beams are configurable on the fly. Norfolk was announced to be available by the end of 2006, yet it still isn't available in 2008. As a matter of fact, four other markets announced that would be available by the end of 2006 are still not available, and that includes Des Moines, where all affiliates have carriage contracts available.

So, it is a technical problem or a bandwidth/pointing problem that is causing DirecTV to announce smaller markets.
