DirecTV New HD channel additions and rumors

Umm, no. They don't need to waste any more bandwidth on channels like that. Next you'll be saying they should have the infomercial channels in HD. Its just stupid.
That may be your opinion but my wife watches shopping channels a lot, just like I watch CSPAN a lot. Just because you don't give a crap about those channels, which is your privilege doesn't mean that everyone would agree with you. I'm sure that there are those who would love to see shopping channels in HD. BTW some cable systems carry some of them in HD now.

As rule of thumb I am glad to see any channel go HD whether I watch it or not because I know that others will like it.

Huh? You think the quality of hd is so bad that you think it's "being shoved down our throats"? Seriously? You think 1080p looks so much better than 1080i that the extra bandwidth, and it would require quite a bit, would justify the reduction in the number of available channels? Really?
HUH! Really? Seriously!. I never said anything about reducing the number of channels. Yes, some of the HD is quite bad. Watered down. I didn't invent the term HD Lite, It's been around a long time. As far as 1080P looking that much better than 1080i, yes because all 1080i is not created equal. Some is pretty weak. Last I checked I have a 1080P capable TV. Now we see the advent of 4K displays yet we can't even get 1080P content. Bandwidth! Please. Get rid of the garbage channels and give us a better viewing experience. I know, garbage channels to one is not necessary a garbage channel to someone else but come on, do we need 250 channels hogging up the bandwidth.

If you want to have 1080p channels, you have to reduce the number of channels! Like I said earlier, there is only so much bandwidth available and 1080p takes up more than 1080i. HD lite was a term to describe Dish's hd channels and the early Directv hd channels. Dish still has it, Directv has upgraded their picture quality. Many people don't have a 1080p display, so they wouldn't be able to see the difference. Perhaps you could give us the definitive list of channels that should be in 1080p and we can save a lot of time.

D* is the provider here, they pass the signal along.
If the Network show is not shot in 1080p, you will NOT see it on any provider.
As of this moment, NO network is shooting in 1080p, so don't blame D* they are not the reason you have no 1080p.,

Shooting in 1080p would also require alot more expense to the stations choosing to shoot in it.

Perhaps you could give us the definitive list of channels that should be in 1080p and we can save a lot of time.

Since most live stuff and short TV shows are filmed with 1080i cameras I would start with all the premiums (HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Encore, TMC, etc) and the HD Extras since "movies" are usually available in 1080P. I would love to see "Aerial America" in 1080P, I would think they would have used a 1080P camera for that.

So start complaining to these networks directly to upgrade their uplink feeds to 1080P.

If someone is happy with 1080i and 720P then that's fine. Some are also happy with the number of HD channels we have. But since the thread is asking about new HD channels I simply mentioned that more channels in HD are not as important to me (TO ME. Personal opinion) as increasing the PQ of the channels we already have. Since this is a enthusiast forum and the question revolves around HD specifically then desiring better HD seems like a logical quest. All the providers compress the signal to some extent and even though I mentioned it's the broadcasters that are holding 1080P back ($$$$ talks) most of the providers are quite satisfied with 1080i and 720P. Doesn't mean we have to be. Remember, the broadcast studios like NBC,ABC,FOX,CBS entered the HD world kicking and screaming. If it was up to them, especially FOX, we'd all be still watching resolutions of 400 on 4x3 sets and dreaming of owning a nice new 35".

I forgot about "The HUB" ; that's a Discovery channel that should go HD long before OWN.

I think The Hub HD will be coming up. Investigation Discovery HD was added earlier this year. Last year, BBC America HD was added. It may be that all the Discovery brands will be in HD by this year.

I am pleased that DirecTV has added a good amount of basic channels the last several months. It was going on in 2012. Then we had a number of them early this year. For example, I'm glad that we have TV Land in high definition. I think DirecTV is gradually updating the channel lineup with whatever it figures it should add this year before the next satellite gets launched. So it does sound like some essential ones that were added either last or this year is what we may expect. Someone mentioned The Hub. Someone mentioned Reelz. Someone mentioned Home Shopping Network and QVC. Someone mentioned Fuse. Maybe they all will be getting added not long from now. Who knows?

HUB HD would be cool. How about Teen Nick HD for the older teenager kids some of us have

Hub HD would be nice. I've seen previews in HD of their programming at the Audience network. very nice.

Hasn't OWN been out longer then the Hub?

Seems like they're launching HD in order of when they launched. (Minus Disney Jr, but I assume that may have been required to carry the channel)

Who said anything about the hub HD coming? I haven't read that anywhere. It would be nice though.
