Well it was working well on the Apple TV until the show I was watching ended.

Didn't none of the rides work on opening day at Disneyland, or is that just an urban legend?

According to this https://www.history.com/news/disneylands-disastrous-opening-day-60-years-ago it was indeed pretty disastrous. But a few of the rides (unmentioned) must have been working according to this paragraph.
To the disappointment of many children, some of the park’s attractions weren’t ready to operate on opening day. The Rocket to the Moon, Peter Pan and Dumbo the Flying Elephant rides were all closed. Visitors to the unfinished Tomorrowland, which was to depict life in 1986 when a trip to the moon would be an everyday occurrence, remained stuck in 1955.

History Channel's Modern Marvels did an episode about Disney World and Disneyland. It talks about the disastrous opening day of Disneyland. Apparently someone counterfeited thousands of tickets. So I guess you could say that also "exceeded our high expectations" :biggrin

After losing HULU on my Samsung 4K Player and now with AppleTV+ for free and Disney coming on line I decided to look into a dedicated box. Got a good price at BJ's on an Apple TV and got it connected this morning. No Apple TV+ or Disney app. But then figured I better update the firmware and it needed it so now I wait for it to finish. Hopefully that adds the latest apps. I do get AppleTV+ for free for a year and have it working on my iphone.

Only trouble I had installing it was the default wanted to do 4K HDR 60Hz and my 3 year old projector won't go higher than 30 Hz in HDR 4K, I found the setting and set the output to limit to 30 Hz which allowed 4:2:2 sampling. That fixed the image quality and it looks really great now.

The Disney app is working okay. However, at times, I will click on a movie and an error message shows up. I just back out, and click again and it shows right up. Seeing the Living Desert was really cool after all of these years. By the way, several episodes of the old Micky Mouse Club are there, I think the first week in 1955 and also the Adventures of Spin and Marty, I am not disappointed. I am hoping they add episodes of the Wonderful World of Color like the Adventures of Gallagher in time.

The Living Desert! Wow, that brings back some memories. I started off with Peter Pan. I saw that back in the 50’s when it first came out and have always loved that particular version of the story.

I tried to set it up and there was a blank screen with apologies to try again later. I did get Apple TV + working and watched Episode 1 of The Morning Show. What a hilarious well written show. I'm going to enjoy this one.

I'm not real happy with the Apple TV remote as it is not IR and I can't program it to my main Remote. Other than that it's OK.

Just a remark. What if I didn’t want this installed on my tv? How did this just appear? I’m wondering what’s going on nowadays. Comcast is giving me free Netflix. Verizon is giving me free ltunes and now Disney. Not complaining, just wondering.

The Apple TV remote is a big reason I refuse to buy [another] one. I had the first three versions, and they were pretty good. The latest version(s) seem great except for the darn remote.

The remote is a challenge. The Apple TV 4K does accept IR commands, the codes should be on the internet somewhere. I find the remote app in iOS to be somewhat better, especially when it comes to entering ID's and passwords in the apps.

Look here and see if it helps... How to use a third-party remote to control your Apple TV

Spent some time looking at some of the movies and what’s available. Not sure I will keep it after the free trial.

There are ways to get a bundle discount in the form of a $5.99 monthly credit beyond the standard Hulu (with ads) + ESPN+ + Disney+ deal for $12.99 if you have (or sign up for) Hulu + Live TV or Hulu (no ads): You Can Get Disney+ Bundle with Hulu (No Ads) and Hulu Live TV, This is How to Do It

There are also options if you already have one of the included services: How to Redeem Your Disney Plus Bundle, Which Includes Hulu and ESPN Plus
Thanks for the tip. I wish they would let me combine my existing Hulu live (without ads) with my prepaid Disney+ lol. That’s asking too much I’m sure.

Actually with my prepaid three year deal and the free year that Verizon stacked one top of it, I’d get little benefit, as I can’t see much value in the espn side of the bundle.

I do wish there was that easy option however.

From Toms Hardware:
  • Amazon Fire TV and Fire tablets
  • Roku boxes and sticks and TVs
  • Google Chromecast and Chromecast-enabled devices
  • iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
  • Android phones, Android TV
  • Apple TV (integrated with the TV app, available as in-app purchase)
  • Microsoft Xbox One
  • Sony PlayStation 4
  • Android-based Sony Smart TVs
  • Chromebooks will be supported
  • Samsung and LG devices
From The Verge:
The lists are pretty much just restatements of the same devices except The Verge includes computer-based browsers. The notable exception according to Tom's Hardware is the Nintendo Switch. I'm not sure Chromecast really qualifies as a device given its dependence on yet another device.

How far back the smart TV support goes remains to be seen but I'm betting it isn't more than a couple of years.
