Does anyone know if there are any DLP sets currently available that handle 1080i native res rather than converting to 720p? Have been searching, but unable to find any.

FAYRICH,

Digital displays do not come in interlace only progressive. You are looking for a 1080P display. ;)

Hmm... Actually, check out the DLP link. A first! But bear in mind this is a horizontal interlace application that has never been done and is not native to the vertical interlace we are thinking of. It is yet another process that can induce artifacts.

That said, 1080P is a simple scaling formula for 1080I and should not be of concern.

So far, Texas Instruments (the makers of DLP) have not made a 1920x1080 DLP chip for the consumer market. They do have a 2048x1080 chip that is used in projectors for Digital Cinemas. If you want to see what one of these projectors looks like check out:

Wouldn't it be sweet to be able to afford one of those projectors and the associated equipment :D . Imagine the light output with a 7kW xenon bulb. Hopefully soon a theater around my home (Portland, OR) will get a digital projector. I would love to see Attack of the Clones in digital-digital-digital :shocked .

Thanks guys. Guess it will have to be a 720p set. Already have a 43" Sammy in the living room, and have been happy with it. Want to upgrade in the family room from a 50" Toshiba RP CRT set to a 50" or larger DLP. Appreciate the help.
