New member and first post here. I asked this on another forum but have not had a response.
Does the Hopper 3 require HDCP 2.2 compliance to output 4K?
All of my sources are connected to a Marantz SR6009 AVR that is not HDCP 2.2 compliant.
All are connected using the same HDMI 2.0 cables.
I can get a Roku Premier plus to output 4K content through the Marantz so, I thought the Hopper 3 would as well.
When I play a free 4K VOD movie like Hustle, my TV’s Input Info says it’s 1920 x 1080 / 60i.
When I use the Hopper 3’s Netflix app, 4K content is not available.

Netflix is responsible for their app on Dish and I believe it does not do 4K. They would rather you use their sources, I guess.

I just plugged my HDMI cable in and the 4K worked when Dish had 4K programming back in February.

Unfortunately I do not know what version of HDMI it needs to pass through the 4K.

I don't either but this may be my issue. When I ask the H3 to play a 4K program on my Hisense TV, the signal is lost! But I can unplug, and replug the HDMI cable and watch 4K. I think there is some sort of HDCP handshake issue.

Yes, it does seem to be a HDCP issue. My Roku Premiere + allowed me to force 4K @ 60 Hz and that then allowed 4K to passthru the Marantz SR6009. It wouldn’t allow HDR though. If set to the Auto setting on Display Type, no 4K content was available on any of its apps.

Wish the Hopper 3 allowed this ability for choosing Display Type.

Your Roku is not outputting 4k though your Marantz.
You absolutely need to have HDCP 2.2 for 4k.

OK, you’re correct. Looks like by forcing the Roku to 4K @60Hz is causing it to upscale everything to 3840x2160@60Hz. Even old SD stuff. Thanks for setting me straight!
