Is E* that comfortable with their satellites to only launch one all of next year. While D* just launched 9S and looks like they will be launching Spaceway 3 in May and DirecTV 10,11 next fall. It look like what D* has been saying about wait until 2007 might be true after all.

Recognize that Dish has leases on Telesat's Anik F3 satellite and SES Americom's AMC-14 satellite both scheduled to be launched in 2007. Lyngsat has the regular Ku band Anik F3 satellite launching in January to 118.7 W replacing AMC-16 there but recent reports have it launching in April. The FCC still needs to approve AMC-16 staying at 118.7 W until Anik F3 is launched and operational. AMC-16 will then be moved back to 85 W but when it was there before, Dish really didn't use it. AMC-14 is a DBS satellite although Lyngsat lists it as going to 105.5 W, recent financial reports associated with SES Americom noted that its launch has been delayed so that it could be modified for use at other orbital locations including 77 W, a Mexican DBS slot that Dish has agreements to use. E-4 is keeping the 77 W slot warm for Dish although the satellite is pretty much junk so nothing is being transmitted from it.

Well Dish has already lauchend a lot of birds over the last two years or so to where Direct is playing cath up.

E* should start building a satellite to go at 77 to replace E*4

It has been reported that AMC-14, a DBS satellite that SES Americom is leasing to Dish will initially go to 77 W. Recognize that 77 W is a Mexican DBS slot and probably can not be used in full CONUS mode because it would probably interfer will the nearby Canadian 82 W slot. In addition, DirecTV is using the 72.5 W Canadian DBS slot for some locals but these should be limited to northern U.S. cities but that is not the case. One thing Dish could do is pair up the 77 W DBS slot and the 85 W regular Ku band slot with AMC-16 once it returns there from 118.7 W.

119 is running strong

What DirecTV does better than Dish
