I think the rumor post was a reference to another thread on the death of Echostar 2

I hope you mean the "possible" death or "rumored" death. Haven't seen anything firm on it being a goner for sure.

My first thoughts when I heard about today's launch party made my mind wander off into the land of 'The Office':

Kevin: Isn't 7 pm a little late for a lunch party?
Angela: Lunch party? It's supposed to say launch party! What is wrong with you?

Phyllis: So how do you feel about the fact that the banner says lunch?
Angela: I feel angry. Angry at you. Angry at you for doing something stupid. Angry at me for believing you could do something not stupid.
Phyllis: I'm so sorry to hear that, that must be awful.
Angela: It is awful. You've made this day awful!
Kevin: Maybe you could just change the U into an A.
Angela: Then it would say lanch party, Kevin. Would it really be better if it said lanch party?
Michael: Ohh, lunch party.
Angela: It's supposed to say launch!
Michael: Okay, wow! Easy, booster seat, nobody cares about this party anyway.
Angela: I care!

Just got an update from Sea Launch...

The countdown continues and weather conditions are within specs to go for a launch tonight. At this time the Echostar 11 mission is a GO.

GO ECHOSTAR 11!

count me in

I'll set aside three or four hours on the PVR, just in case I forget.

As a kid who grew up in Florida, stepping outside to watch the satellites go up, was the norm.
However, watching this one live on TV will still be exciting.

Really enjoyed a Discovery (or similar) show about a previous successful launch for Dish, by the Sea Launch company.

My dad was stationed at Patrick AFB 1969-1971. I got to see a few Apollo launches from the beach. They were awesome! Hope the footage is good tonight.

Am I being a little outragious by saying that the future of E is dependant on this going well? If there is an "abnormality" I think Dish Network is dead.

Sorry but disagree. Yea, their EA plans might be messed up between that and the E2 issues but they still would be able to provide all the programming that they have today for months to come, as long as 129 doesn't degrade much further.

I think we are all a little nervous about the launch because of what happened the last launch. I am sure Dish did it's homework and covered all of their bases on this one. You got to think that the success rate for any satellite launch is pretty damn high.

I was a kid in the early 70s and watched Apollo 17 and Skylab 1 launch at night. There's something about watching the rocket launch light up the sky like it's day, hear the sound a few seconds later then feel the shock waves from the engines. We were about 4 miles from the launch in Titusville Fla. I've never taken these launches for granted since.
