FIRST LOOK - ViP 922 Slingloaded DVR

Nice review Scott. This would be nice if I had Dish but I have Directv. Directv really needs to take notes on what Dish is doing and get rolling on Future DVR's. Since I don't travel Sling is not a big deal for me. Having PIP would be nice.

Good review Scott. Could use a bit more "elfing" but that's ok. I think it is a fair and honest review with most of the information that we want. By the way, I'm assuming that this is "IT"?

If I "elfed" if more, you would not think it was written by Scott; he has his distinctive voice, and I think this is a great review of a very interesting product.

I think my 622's days are numbered. :)

And by the way Dish.... since we know you are reading this.... NO ONE wants to watch their slingbox in a web browser. The Slingplayer software works great, there is NO reason for us not to be able to use it. Provide support for the sling player software for the 922.

AND stop hiding the software on your website. Really irritating. Needed to download a copy the other day, and took ten minutes to find it.

Now, back to your regular programming...

Can we get an AMEN! Especially since we know it works with older versions of the sling player!

And Dish,
Whats with the addtional fees on top of addtional fees on top of addtional lease fees. ?
People are looking to save money, not blow it all on 1 Receiver.
Nice receiver, But way to much hype, and thats not enough to put it in a higher price bracket IMO.

Another question How is the 722k with EHD,and a Sling box any different besides the 922 has it in one box.

Does it do HD in Room number 2 ??
For $650 I can Buy a 722k, EHD,and a Sling box and pay less per month.
I'm just want to know what would I be missing by not having the 922?

When you have a Seperate sling box does, that have a monthly fee?

I don't remember the name of the device, but Scott talked about it in the review == Sling will have a box you can connect to another tv, and sling HD to it as TV2. The operative word there is "will have" not "currently has."

And the Number one question is How much MORE will this cost?
The cost just keeps on rising.
$200 in upfront lease cost is fine, But to charge $3 more for DVR fee and what ever other fee's it comes with is a big thumbs down.

I just ordered mine! Great thing to get on my birthday!

The woman at dish at first said they were not released yet....I had to tell her that Satelliteguys said they were available and then after some 5 minutes of looking, she discovered that they were in fact available.

OK , Now this is a SINGLE room DVR?
so no TV2?
Thats what I read Yesterday here.

MSRP: $649
Existing Customer lease cost $200 - $400

ViP922 SlingLoaded DVR Receiver Monthly Fees – Effective April 7, 2010

The following monthly fees may apply to accounts with a model ViP922 receiver:

• $17 Additional ViP922 SlingLoaded DVR Receiver Fee – Applicable only if the model ViP922 receiver is in the secondary position on the customer’s account.
o Please note that although the model ViP922 receiver is a single TV solution, the amount of the Additional Receiver fee for the model ViP922 receiver is different from other single-TV HD DVR models because of the several value-added features available on the model ViP922 receiver that are not available on other current DISH receivers

More Information on Installing a ViP922 SlingLoaded DVR Receiver
Please see below for specific installation considerations that will be applicable to customer accounts with a model ViP922
receiver.
• ViP922 SlingLoaded DVR Part Number #176646
• Only One Leased Model ViP922 Receiver Allowed Per Account – Customers will be permitted to have only one (1) leased model ViP922 receiver on their account. Customers may purchase additional model ViP922 receivers at MSRP if they wish.
• Broadband Internet Connectivity Required – To enable full functionality of the advanced features of the model ViP922 receiver, a high-speed broadband Internet connection via direct Ethernet or SlingLink is required.
o SlingLink is the New Name for HomePlug Turbo – Please note that we recently changed the name of the HomePlug Turbo connectivity device to “SlingLink.” SlingLink uses the power lines in the customer’s home to connect equipment, such as satellite receivers, to the broadband home network, and eliminates the need to run new Ethernet cables.

Right now I see the following on my bill: (625 receiver + VIP 622)

DuoDVR Reciver = $17.00
DVR Service = $6.00
America's Top 250 = $62.99
HD & Platinum = $10.00

How would it change if I had a VIP 622 and VIP 922 on the account? I've called Dish but they seem a bit clueless.

Also, how much is an extra VIP 922 UHF remote? (and do you get TWO remotes included in the 922?)

I wish that Dish customer service could help me but they hardly knew anything...

Just called up DishStore this morning and they do not know how to order (Lease units) until this afternoon but mentioned that a Ditrict Dish Netowrk representative was in their office yesterday afternoon.

It's Wednesday the 7th can I get one now?

I called a little while ago and ordered one. To my surprise the CSR was up to speed. (When I was asked by the recording, "How could I help you today?", I replied add equipment and then said HD receiver. They will install a rooftop antenna for the $29 fee for the module which is great because my current antenna is UHF only and some stations here in NY switched back to VHF. It's due to be installed tomorrow!

I dont think you will be able to order 922's to lease from DISHSTORE I think you can only do that from DISH Network.

DISHSTORE.NET is only selling units, I dont think they have the ability to lease one to you.

922 Training Guide???

What are the Moca bars for?
