Yes. That is possible. A bad LNB will even leave experienced techs scratching theit head because they cannot or will not allow themselves to believe a new LNB out of the box can be bad.
Hmmm, why is that ?
Just think about everywhere that LNB has been and how many times it's been bouncing around in the box on the way to your warehouse or in your truck thruout town.

If you have voltage at the dish and not detecting swm thats the first thing you swap.

Not sure how you work, but any tech with an AIM can detect a failing LNB on the spot!!!!! No head scratching anywhere....

the thing isnt infallable. my buddy was at some poor slobs house till midnight because it couldnt detect a bad swm splitter
 
when you're driving your car, and the tach says ~2000 rpm, you trust that your engine is really firing at 2000 rpm and not 1600 rpm right? false information is worse than no information.

Again, is not about the AIM reporting bad information, but rather the user not UNDERSTANDING the information the meter is providing. It does you no good if you have not idea what 2000 RPMs on your tach reader means.....
