Hopper Guide Display Bug

This has persisted through several software releases including S238 which our hopper received last night. It's kinda minor, but I wanted to post it in case no one else has noticed it.

This only seems to occur in a favorite guide with exactly 7 entries (1 full screen). All of our other favorites lists have more than 7 channels and display fine.

Initially the guide looks normal with all the channels listed with the correct program information.

As you scroll down past the bottom of the list, the guide channels start to scroll up, but instead of scrolling the program information, the program info from the original bottom channel starts to be copied up the screen.

Eventually, your guide screen is full of all the channels listing the exact same program information...

Exiting the guide to view live tv and then returning to the guide will re-display the correct information until you scroll vertically again.

The bug has never bothered us too much because technically, since all of the channels in this small favorites list are displayed on the screen at one time, you don't need to scroll past the bottom channel. I first noticed the software bug this past fall, but it may have been there earlier.

I have not see that, but I have seen something similar when looking at the daily schedule where a day and it's recordings seems to be repeated.

It's possible this issue is only with my Hopper, but I've always suspected it was a software problem. It happened when I had S234 also. In order to duplicate it, you need to create a favorites list containing only 7 channels. Go to that favorites list and keep scrolling down until the entire list wraps at least once. This isn't a flaky sometimes it does this/sometimes it doesn't. It happens everytime you scroll past the bottom of this small 7 channel favorites list. I noticed it last fall, but wasn't too concerned. I figured someone else would notice it and it would be fixed in a future release. I had forgotten about it until last night when my wife stumbled upon the problem and called me into the room to look at the screen.

Would someone mind trying this on their Hopper to see if they can duplicate this issue?

Thanks,

-Paul

Have you guys tried setting up a favorites list with ONLY 7 channels? I tested this the first time you posted it and I was able to duplicate it and I passed it along to Dish. Since its still occuring, I'll pass it along but I doubt this will be on the top of the priority list since I highly doubt there are that many users with 7 channel favorites lists on a Hopper.

lol, I feel the same way. Now I'm curious as to how many people actually have favorites lists that small, but oh well. Its been passed along and is being investigated.

lol... Yeah it is a small list. I originally added it in the mid 90's when we first got locals. It was a bigger list back then because we were able to get both Baltimore and Washington locals from Dish back then. The short favorite was a quick way for us to see just what was on our local stations. The family is so used to having a 'Networks' favorite list with just our local channels, that I've had to re-create it on every model receiver we've upgraded to since the mid 90's.

As for scrolling down this small list and seeing the issue, it doesn't happen too much, and usually it's absent minded scrolling... moving the cursor onto the shows and reading the descriptions and then pressing the down button again.

Like I said in the first post, the bug isn't really a big deal, but since I suspected Dish wasn't aware of it, I decided to post it here. Thanks for passing it along to Dish.

Wow odd bug, but great find... I also was able to duplicate this but a work around is turn the EPG banner back on. If the list is only 6 channels with EPG banner is on problem resumes lol very interesting.

I just noticed last night that this same guide display issue also happens on the Joey. I don't watch the Joey too much as it's in the basement and viewed by the kids more than me. For some reason I had never thought to check it until yesterday, and noticed that it behaves exactly like the Hopper on this favorites guide.

How about you go to DVR > Red Timers > pick a timer with events > Timer Schedule > pick an event > Edit Event > modify it and undo that > cancel pack to timers?

All Timers are gone. From Red tab > Timers. Presto they are back.
I've also seen part of the listings disappear.
Scrolling just displays that number of event with no recover of others. Cancel out and go back in.

Ah, the interface bugs. Considering the huge changes from the 722 series, they are fairly small in number.
It is a little tricky getting use to the interplay of selection and colored buttons and going right from DVR to access the EHDs.
And that EHDs are 1 or 2 also Menu > Down > Down > Left gives you the Transfer menu with Total Space and Free Space, where there are 3 possible USBs (ports?).

You can use a USB Hub and have in/out selections from any of them even with 2 (or more?) powered.
Have not tried 2 at the same time through the hub--can't afford to lose some or mess up a disk.

Missing is Transfer from one USB to another to complete the options.
It would save having to do 2 transfer--not much faster, just easier.

A general complaint is that ofter finishing an operation brings you back to the top of its list, especially if it deletes.
