HOPPER SNAP

Be still, my beating heart.

Since I can no longer roll over scheduled recordings to the second HWS when all the timers on the first one are full, I’m seriously considering the move to the Hopper 3.

How serious? I’ve rewired the attic phone lines to get them out of the way and bought the attic ladder. Since it only weighs 40 lbs, I think I can do this job alone.

I never thought this day would come.

Almost. Almost.

Wife unit has not returned from a trip with MiL.

Attic stairs? My current home has one of those, and I've almost injured myself on multiple occasions, even without having to install the dang thing first. Please be careful. Do not fall out of the attic. Do not have one of the springs get lose and hit something. Do not scissor you fingers off in the ironwork.

I bought one with hydraulic cylinders instead of springs.

I’ve already permanently damaged one finger (years ago), which is still somewhat useable, but may not stay with me to the grave.

Thank you for the warning and concern.

Is the reason the snap goes into the top port is because if installed into the bottom port it would block the upper port?
Could one use a usb extension cord?
It does appear to be a very clean solution from a mounting perspective, I’m curious about the technical aspect, would it work plugged into the lower port or the front port?

Is tomorrow the big day Scott? I have a 5:15 am conference call that I could be on hold with dish. HaHa.
I’ve had my HWSes for 3 or 4 years now so I can wait a few more days.

I'm going to wait and see what others do with this. It may screw things up and all kinds of software updates may follow.

I'll bet it works fine on any port with an extension. FireTV Sticks conveniently ship with short ones, for those who want to try it out. I can't experiment since I have an H3.

So I just chatted with a dish csr, to request a hopper snap. I have hopper sling and two joeys. During the chat, I had her check on me getting upgraded to a hopper 3. She wanted $95 for the tech visit fee, and $150 for the upgrade. Even after telling her I've been a tech for 14 years, and never late on paying my dish bill, she says they can't waive those fees. Whatever.

Next she gives me the contact info for 3 local retailers, and says to contact them for a hopper snap. I told her no, they're supposed to be free, directly from dish. She then said that she is unable to "replace" my hopper snap, to contact the retailer, and then she ended the chat.

I really wish I would've saved that chat log, but I closed the window before I thought to do that. So yeah, I'd say you might want to wait another day or two before trying to order these.

Edit: I'll have to find out for sure, but on tech portal it sounds like the snap might only be going out on workorders that have a hopper 1 or 2 on them. Meaning, I'm not sure dish will be sending them out as a solo item?
