Hopper with sling dead - Anything I can do?

I have 2 Seagates, both EHDs. They are sparsely used (just for backup purposes mostly). Hopefully I'll keep the run time down to a minimum to prolong their life. As a rule I try to stay with WD, but these two drives were a steal on Black Friday.

Seagate used to have the nickname Seizegate due to a inability to start spinning called "sticktion".
I had a WD with that problem. Long time ago. I could get it spinning by giving it a quick twist back and forth in the plane of the disk platters.
Other than that old, old problem, I prefer WD hard drives today.

Dish won't replace smart card, since when?
