How does dish.sling.com find my receiver?

I have a dynamic IP. How does the remote management find my receivers? I assume the DVRs monitor the IP and "phone home" to report any changes, but I was not sure.

Once connected, your receiver initiates a connection with the sling servers every few seconds, like going to a website and continually hitting the refresh button. If you have logged in and told it to do something, it gets it then.
