Trying to find satellite for RV HR21-700 (DVR) setup. Does the receiver have to be "activated" before I can
find the birds? Using signall finder (SF 1000) and locked into Azimuth/Elevation/Tilt still "nothing" on the meter.
Any thoughts please? Thanks!

First, that signal finder is a waste of money, even if it detects a satellite it cannot tell you which one it is.
Second, what type of dish do you have, and have you been through satellite setup on the DVR, setting the correct dish and multiswitch type?

And yes, you can align a dish before activation.....

Yes. Have done all that you suggested and am staring at the Signal Strength screen, all zeros.
SL5 slimline (non SWM) mutiswitch single tuner B Band converters in place etc.

Your HR 21 has two tuners, if you do not have two cables from the Dish only one tuner will work. Be Sure you setup up the DVR to only function with one TUNER and connect the Satellite feed to the TUNER one input on the back of the receiver. If you want to be able to use both tuners you will need either a second coax connected to the receiver from the Dish or get a SWM LNBF.

Even with one cable connected in legacy mode, the dvr should show signal on tuner 1, either the box is misconfigured, or the dish is way off.

Hawgjo, you have to point the dish at the 101 satellite. That will be close to due south for you.
Here are the numbers you need: Azimuth 189, Elevation 54, Skew 80.
